The Giants are in Washington for the 4th of July and for some reason the game starts at 11 am Eastern time....which means 8 am on the west coast.

Baseball at 8 am?

However, this does give me an idea for how baseball's most unbreakable record could be shattered.

I reference Ed Ruelbach's pitching two shutouts in one day...in order to break that record someone would need to pitch three shutouts in one day and they just don't schedule triple headers very often any longer.

But...suppose one of the starting pitchers in today's Giants-Nats game throws a shutout, say he does it in a snappy 2 hours fifteen minutes, meaning the game is over at 10:15 am on the west coast.

Then the winning pitcher is immediately traded to a team on the west coast which is playing a twi-night double header starting at 5 pm.

The newly traded pitcher hops on a jet at 11 am and arrives at 4 pm in time to rush to the ballpark and pitch a shutout in the first game. Still feeling strong he also starts the second game and pitches another shutout.

And there you have it.

Ed who?

Wasn't it Joe McGinnity? No, wait, he's the one that pitched three double-headers in one month.

Three shutouts in one day would have been easy for those guys. Oeschger and Cadore pitched 26 innings against each other, allowing only one run each. It took them nearly 4 hours.

Does seem odd, indeed.

I've grown very tired of watching Nick Swisher swing at pitches outside the strike zone and would not mind seeing him in a different uniform next year.

According to FanGraphs, Swisher swings at pitches out of the zone, O-Swing, 13% less often than the average hitter.

Considering what a good player Swisher is, and considering my lack of love for the American League club based in New York, I'd also be happy so see him in a different uniform.

I am surprised by this data. It just seems that he's been a rally-killer lately.
