Well, he's swinging and missing at pitches out of the zone 14% more often than the average player

Aha! I thought so. He's also been swinging too hard. Contract year.

Astros are still stuck on 9 road wins. So they get to come home tonight and try to win a game against the Brew Crew.

I've seen this team play better than what they've shown in the last week.

Boy, Tampa Bay really spanked Cleveland tonight. And Philly's struggles are continuing. They are now 2-8 in their last 10.

And the Rangers have lost five straight.

Last night in Boston there were 3 sac flies in one inning. I've never seen that before.

Oakland A's win in extra innings on a walk off HR by Chris Carter.

The A's, who dealt starting pitchers Gio Gonzalez and Trevor Cahill for prospects this offseason, have the lowest ERA in the AL. In fact, they have the 3rd lowest ERA in all of baseball, despite being in the higher scoring AL.

Pretty impressive, considering their no-name pitching staff.

Baseball at 8 am?
Before the World Series was sold to prime time TV corporations, World Series games started at 12:30 local time. I was living in Oregon for the 1960 World Series, and Oregonians could still exercise their constitutional right to refuse to observe Daylight Savings Time. So I had to set my alarm clock to get up at 8:30 every morning to watch the Pirates beat the Yanks. Mazeroski's homer came at 11:06 AM, Oregon time.

The Curse of the Commerce Comet. Todd Helton will try again today to pass Mickey Mantle on the all time hit list. Helton tied Mantle on June 30 against the Padres, then struck out his next seven straight ABs. But he put the ball in play his last three times up.

A's team ERA is 3.40, next best in AL is the LA Angels at 3.70.

Pretty good for a team that traded off their top two starting pitchers from last season.
