Helton hitless again, going into break. Now hitless in 13 ABs (with 8 Ks) since tying Mantle for career hits.

At the All Star break, eleven of the fourteen American League clubs are at or above .500. There are eight teams within two and a half games of one another competing for the two wild card slots.

In the NL there are five teams all within a half game of one another competing for the two wild card slots.

Could not have happened to a more deserving team.

The Giants nearly had the most embarrassing night in the division. They took a 2-0 lead over the Astos into the 9th...then with Casillia releiving Lincecum (who suddenly remembered he was Tim Lincecum and pitched an eight inning, 11 k shutout)...it went...

K
walk
K
Double by Maxwell, run scores

Then Synder struck out to end the game....except that it was on a wild pitch, the ball squirting away from catcher Hector Sanchez. His throw to first was wide, Synder safe...and on the throw Maxwell came home to tie the game.

Fortunately Sanchez redeemed himself with the game winning hit in the 12th.

And when all the dust cleared, the Giants were back in first place in the NL West.

Expect something like a strikeout an inning. A walk every 3 innings and an ERA around 3.5
Never actually seen Tolleson throw a pitch before.
He's a max effort guy. Each pitch looks like he's trying to throw it through the catcher. But, if the pitches I just saw are any indication, he gets some pretty sick movement.

Shawn Tolleson has retired the last 9 batters he has faced, and has struck out 4 of his last 5 hitters

Six games into his return from the DL, Ryan Howard has hit his first home run of the season. It was a difference maker in tonight's 3-2 victory over the Dodgers. This drops LA an insurmountable two full games behind the Giants. In their last 24 games, the Dodgers have been 5-19.

Wow, that's crazy.

Anyone else check out the wild card standings for the american league. I'm pretty sure all but three teams are still in the hunt. Could be a really exciting end to the season
