Outstanding performance from Jordan Zimmermann of the Nationals.

Zimmerman faced 22 Houston Astros and K'd half of them. He induced 6 ground balls, 1 infield pop up, 2 line drives and only 1 outfield fly ball. His BattedBallFIP suggests he should have held the Astros scoreless, which is exactly what he did.

Might be a little soon for him.

He walks a decent amount (10% in the minors) and makes good contact (15%). The power isn't there yet though and he's not dominating in AA.

Maybe .310/.380 as a projection.

Oriole SSs are hitting .280/.390 on the year
Third 3Bmen are hitting .320/.405

He's not a clear offensive upgrade on either of those positions.

Twitter says he'll be playing 3B where Wilson Betemit has been playing. Betemit is ... uh ... not good at defense. Machado is younger, faster, and maybe a SS. He should be a defensive upgrade.

I'm not sure that Machado will help the Orioles win any more than Betemit will, but I do like that the Orioles are being aggressive when they have a chance to get into the playoffs.
Machado with 2 HR's tonight

The Red Sox released Brent Lillibridge

The Red Sox traded for Minnesota 3Bman Danny Valencia who isn't really very good.

Will Middlebrooks suffered a broken wrist when he was hit by a pitch. This ends his season and has the potential to alter the trajectory of his career. Another former Red Sox suffered a similar injury and was never the same.
