Guthrie another solid game tonight; 7 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 8 K's and no runs allowed.

Guthrie's batted ball FIP for the game was an excellent 1.28.

He gave up 7 fly balls but none of them left the expansive Kaufman Stadium yard; big difference compared to pitching in Coors

St. Louis and Baltimore have identical 63-53 records as of this morning.

The Cardinals have outscored their opponents by 107 runs.

The Orioles have been outscored by their opponents by 43 runs.

The Pythag expected records for those run differentials would give us:
Cardinals 70-46
Orioles 53-63-17

St. Louis in theory should be 17 games better than Baltimore, yet they have the same w/l records.

The reason they are not is the difference in one run game luck/skill. St. Louis is 12-19 in those games, the Orioles are 22-6.

Today in baseball...

...a certain pitcher is pitching very well in a certain game. How well, I can't mention [/superstition]

This pitcher just struck out the side in the 8th. Not going to trust this one to balls in play
