This is the first season in MLB history with 3 perfect games.

Rays fan here. Watched the whole, terrible game (from our perspective), but props to Hernandez. Rays hitters never had a chance. Poor Jeremy Hellickson allows one run and five or so hits and is the loser.

Another perfect game.....yawn.

Felix's effort nets him a 99 Game Score, the second highest of the year behind Matt Cain's 101. Hernandez now has two games in the top ten for the year, having registered a 93 in a three hit, 12 K, no walk shutout of Texas on July 17th, good for an 8th place tie.

Cain, Hernandez and R.A. Dickey all own two slots each in the top ten list. Justin Verlander and Jered Weaver also appear on the top ten list, not surprise names. The only real outlier on the list is Phillip Humber of the White Sox. His April 21st perfect game against Seattle was a 96, but apart from that his best GS for a start this season has been 66, and he has broken 60 only two other times. His third start after his perfect game, against Cleveland, he posted a Game Score of 6.

Unfortunately Maddon sat three regulars for the game - guess he saw a bad day coming and felt the rest was more important (Jennings, Roberts, Keppinger). The Rays have one of the league's lowest payrolls, but are still in the running for a wild card playoff spot. Much of their lineup is filled w/ player who should be in the minor leagues - but that's all the Rays can afford to put on the field.
