Hanley Ramirez two out homer in 9th (off Romo) makes it 2-1, but SF holds on and regains the lead in the NL West, the fifth time the lead has been exchanged between these two clubs this month.

The home run by Ramirez represented the only time any of the first six batters in the LA order reached base.

I don't know why it did not occur to me before, but the Giants are sending out Pagan, Posey, Pence and the Panda. They could be the Killer P's, a reason to bring back Pill.

Last year Kershaw was unbeatable vs the Giants. He was 5 - 0 with a 1.07 ERA in 6 games and 42 innings.

This season, not quite the same. In 4 games Kershaw has a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings, but the record is just 1 - 3.

Last season Kershaw won games by scores of 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, and 1-0.

This season he's lost 0-2, 0-2, and 1-2

Kershaw has really declined. He used to be able to inspire his teammates to score more runs when he was on the mound against SF. Now it has been one lousy run in three starts, clearly he has lost his mojo. It was probably bad off season habits.

They go at it again tonight, Lincecum vs Blanton....the suddenly lost vs the never quite lived up to his Moneyball promise. I don't look for another 2-1 game, but one never knows.

Last night, I suppose because Bumgarner wasn't allowing many baserunners, LA ran whenever they had a chance, attempting four stolen bases, getting caught twice. If they do so again tonight and anyone gets caught, it will be the first time a runner has been nabbed while Lincecum was pitching. In 2012 base thieves are 15-0 when Timmy is on the mound.

Lincecum has never been any good at controlling the running game, in his career basestealers are 115 for 142, 81% success.

Today in baseball...

...the Mariners look for their 24th win since the All-Star break. Guess what, their 23-13 record since July 10th is the best in baseball. Also King Felix looks to match Johnny Vander Meer

Just saw this play from last night's Nationals' walk-off win.

And regarding Zito a couple posts ago, he should just stick to his fastball. Dave LaRoche, he's not.
Zito may have applied just a bit too much moisture.

Using Batted Ball FIP, we can compare Kershaw's and Bumgarner's performances more in depth.

Kershaw 0 BB, 10 K's, 6 ground balls, 3 outfield fly balls, 7 line drives, 1 infield fly ball, 2 bunts = 2.06 expected runs allowed
Bumgarner 0 BB, 1 HB, 10 K's, 9 ground balls, 4 outfield fly balls, 3 line drives, 0 infield fly balls, 0 bunts = 1.84 expected runs allowed
