This Tigers and Jays game is excellent. Outstanding outing by Verlander. Outstanding catch by Anthony Gose and a game-saving catch by Austin Jackson against Gose

Dangit, I was trying not to think about that. What in the name of Rocky Colavito happened there?

It appears, according to reports, that the Red Sox have put Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez on waivers.

Youve got to hand to Red Sox fans------still sellouts and Fenway-----great fans, but how long will their patience remain?

I'd say the cheap offseason and early season signings of Kotchman, Damon and Cunningham haven't worked out very well, and counting on Hannahan, Duncan and Lopez to supplement the offense too has been a disaster.

However, they have had a more significant problem with the inconsistency and poor performances of starting pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez and Justin Masterson, who were expected to anchor the Tribe's rotation.

It's very common for names like that to turn up on the waiver wire, but are immediately withdrawn if anybody claims them. I heard an explanation once about why, but it's too esoteric for me.

35 hits and not a single hbp. Ynmyday Bob Gibson would've.....

I note that Boston's rookie Pedro Ciriaco, who is the latest San Pedro de Marcoris contribution, is living up to the "You don't walk off the island" ethic. In 123 plate appearances this year, he has drawn two base on balls.

Reds minor league infielder Billy Hamilton, who has 148 stolen bases this season, was thrown out on both of his stolen base attempts today.

Kudos to Montgomery Biscuits catcher Mayo Acosta, who threw him out at second base on both attempts.

Will any of the contenders pull of a waive deal prior to Sept 1?

Maybe the Giants can use another outfielder to replace Melky Cabrera------maybe the Dodgers can use some pop on the right side of their infield.

The Rangers-Twins, winding up at exactly the same time, was just as crazy. Rangers scored 6 in the 8th to break a tie, but then the Twins had the tying run in the on deck circle in their ninth. Th last eight runs were all unearned.

Oddly, in the top of the 8th, with the score tied, the Rangers let the go-ahead run advance to second with one out on defensive indifference. I think it was scored a SB, but the 1B did not hold him on, the pitcher never looked over, 2B was uncovered, and the catcher caught the pitch as if there was nobody on base. I don't think I've ever seen that before.
