Some stats. (among ERA title qualified pitchers)

Cliff Lee has an extraordinary lead in the category of strikeouts to base on balls. Lee has punched out 6.24 batters for each one he has walked. In second place is Matt Cain with 4.97 whiffs for every free pass issued.

Baseball's most efficient pitcher? The one who breezes through innings with the fewest pitches required?

He is on forced hiatus at the moment, it is Bad Bartolo Colon who has needed an average of 14.1 tosses to get his side back into the dugout. Colon will be dropping off the list as the minimum innings requirement rises. Felix Hernandez and R.A. Dickey, both of whom need but 14.3 pitches to get through an inning, stand to duke it out for the lead.

At the opposite extreme, baseball's least efficient pitcher has been the fallen on hard times Tim Lincecum. The Freak has needed 17.8 pitches per inning, meaning he usually passes the 100 pitch mark in the sixth inning, well, if he is still around in the sixth inning. It has been really painful watching Lincecum struggle through these epic length frames. When the first opposition hitter up in an inning runs the count to 3-2, fouls off another 3 or 4 offerings, and then walks, you can hear the AT&T crowd groaning......hell, here we go again.

And the misery continues for Cleveland, shutout again tonight by the A's Tommy Milone and three relief pitchers, Oakland's 13th staff shutout.

So now the Indians have scored eleven runs in their last nine games, and no runs at all in their last 22 innings.

Pedro Alvarez has his third 4-RBI game of the season, against the same team. 20 of his 67 RBIs are against the Cardinals, with two homers tonight, an opposite-field 422-footer, and a 469 foot shot out onto the PNC Riverwalk.

The Dodgers are 1-3 since their big trade, .250 ball.

Plus your catcher got really squashed by Josh Harrison

So Molina left the game for "nothing?" I always suspected he was a wuss.

The definition of insanity it to keep doing the same thing over again, expecting different results. The Cardinals pitchers keep throwing balls across the plate in front of Pedro Alvarez. You don't keep on letting the same guy beat you over and over again. Seven home runs and 23 RBI against one team.
