Nevertheless, even counting all the years of head-start, consider that there have been about 8,000 different people residing in Shiner in the past 100 years, and 5 of them have played MLB, which is one out of 1,300 random people on the street who did or will play MLB. For Willemstad, it is maybe 180,000 since 1970, with ten in MLB, which is only one out of 18,000. Shnier's favor, by a factor of about 15.
Well, Wilemstad/Shiner will remain one of the great rivalries in MLB.

Mets lose leadoff double in the ninth of one-run game, when Torres called out on appeal for missing first base.

Watching the D-Backs and Giants now------D-Backs just havent gotten any momentum going this year.

They have gotten a good year out of Kubel, Hill, and Montero, but just havent gotten untracked offensively on a consistent basis.

They have Miley, Cahill, Kennedy, and some other good looking prospects for the rotation.

During the offseason they either need to sign or trade for a solid rbi guy-----a 100 rbi guy good in the clutch.

I did not want to leave out Paul Goldschmidt-----he has been solid also.

I think maybe they could use a consistent lead off man-----get on a lot and steal bases and motivate.

Yankees fan base in a state of panic. Did anyone see the effort or rather, lack of effort, exhibited by Cano during today's game? He doesn't hustle to first on a ground ball and later in the 8th, he chooses not to dive and attempt to knock down a ball from going to the outfield which then allowed the eventual winning run to score.

For a player with so much talent, his laziness is beyond frustrating.

I didn't see his ground out but half of the 2Bmen in baseball wouldn't have gotten close enough to the defensive groundout to have been accused of being lazy

LOST: 10-game division lead. Last seen on July 18 in the vicinity of 161st Street and River Avenue in the Bronx. A generous reward is being offered for its safe return.

How to beat R A Dickey? In his last five starts, the opposing pitchers have batted .400 against Dickey (4 for 10), not counting Wainwright's homer off him today, which makes a .454 BA in the last six starts.

You beat Dickey by putting pitchers at all nine positions in the starting lineup, until you have about a 6-run lead, and then put in defensive replacements. Only pitchers know how to hit against him. Jason Motte can catch. They all know how to cover first, they have the arms to play SS and 3B, they shag flies in the outfield during BP and catch home runs in the bullpen..

Needless to say, the conventional wisdom of managing genius was to pinch hit for Wainwright the second time he was due up.

Brandon McCarthy hit in the head with a line drive.

One of the most disturbing sounds I've ever heard
