Harper hasn't been tearing up AAA. He's got a .333 OBP and .375 SLG so far.

He might not be up for long, but the Bryce Harper era begins now.

Not a bad start for Harper. I figured he'd be as nervous as a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs.

He had a good debut. His arm is on point too.

Should be a really good player, but you never really know.

Hope he isn't hurt by being pushed to the majors before he was actually ready.

Harper hasn't been in the majors long, and 15 trips to the plate isn't many.

But, in 3 of those trips to the plate he has crushed major league pitching.

Here's 2 of them.

Bryce Harper got his first ML stolen base tonight against the Phillies. He was hit by a Cole Hamels pitch in his first at bat, went to third on a Werth single, and when Hamels made a soft toss to drive Werth back to first, Harper took off and stole home.

Harper certainly seems overmatched and unready for the bigs so far...

MLB.com Gameday | phillies.com: Gameday
Quote:
"I was trying to hit him," admitted Hamels, who allowed one run over eight innings to improve to 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA. "I'm not going to deny it. I'm not trying to injure the guy. They're probably not going to like me for it, but I'm not going to say I wasn't trying to do it. I think they understood the message, and they threw it right back. That's the way, and I respect it. They can say whatever they want."
Hamels' message cost the Phillies a run and didn't seem to have any impact on Harper who showed him up by stealing home.

And spare me your “it has always been thus” arguments. Just because something is a tradition doesn’t make it right. People have had their careers ended by thrown baseballs before. A couple have even been killed. We decry cheapshots and intentional efforts to harm opponents in every other sport. We should feel no differently about it in baseball.

Bryce Harper is Making History | FanGraphs Baseball

Quote:
There are exactly two players in the game’s history who have racked up 100+ plate appearances and posted a better wRC+ in their age 19 season than what Harper has right now, and those two guys played when Chester A. Arthur was president. To put it another way, Oyster Burns and Fred Carroll were both alive when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. These dudes played a really long time ago.

The fact that Bryce Harper is good is not news. Everyone has been aware of him since he was 15 years old, and he’s widely accepted as one of the most exciting prospects in the history of the game. However, given what he’s done in the Majors in his first month in the big leagues, we may have actually been underrating him all along. Harper’s not just a great young player – he’s one of the very best teenagers anyone has ever seen.
