I'm going to disagree with some points tough

First, the suggestion that Gomes would be an upgrade over Duda. Gomes and Duda are probably about equal. Gomes is no great defender, but is almost certainly better than Duda, that's true. However, Duda's offense is certainly better than Gomes'. At best, I can say that Duda and Gomes are roughly equal. If the Mets acquired Gomes their best bet would be to platoon Duda and Gomes. Duda, a lefty, hits about 40% better than the average hitter vs righties and 30% worse than an average hitter vs lefties. Gomes, a righty, hits about 30% better than the average hitter vs lefties and 10% worse than the average hitter vs righties. Playing Gomes vs left-handed pitchers, and Duda vs right-handed pitchers would make Mets right fielders about 37% better than the average hitter overall. Better than either Duda or Gomes alone.

Second, Quentin was traded to the Padres in the offseason. The Padres gave up 2 minor leaguers for him; neither being a top prospect. The Padres also agreed to pay all of his salary. So, now, why, after Quentin hitting the **** out of the ball for a month would they trade him for less than what they gave up to get him? No way Quentin can be had for that small amount.

Third, the author says that Cuddyer's production has been "respectable". Once Coors field is factored in, Cuddyer has been almost exactly average with the bat this season. A poor fielding, average hitting corner outfielder is less than an average player. Worse than average isn't really, "respectable", I don't think.

Fourth, the deals for Soriano and Willingham would both make perfect sense for this season. However, I don't think that either deal is what the Mets' FO is looking for in 2013 or beyond.

I'd go for Willingham.

Mets win 9-0. Dickey is now 12-1 with a 2.15 era. He had 10 k's tonight. His era leads the NL. Just an amazing year. Mets are doing a great job against the Dodgers.

Mets win 5-0. 4th in a row and they are now 2.5 games in 2nd place with a 43-36 record. Santana with a good game and Davis with a big 3 run homer. =)

And guess who got the back page in the newspapers? Lately, I'm having sinister suspicions that this blatant bias by the local media towards the Yankees goes back to 1961, when the New York Mets were proposed as an expansion franchise and the Yanks (by default, since they were the Johnny-come-latelies following the Giants and Dodgers) had inherited the territorial rights to New York City. Somehow, I suspect that as a part of the deal for their granting approval to allow the Mets into baseball, they held out for primacy in the press.

The Mets have to outperform the Yankees all throughout the regular season and on into the playoffs to get the sort of recognition the Yankees get for playing a bad game.

I guess that after 50 years in the league, it's time to acknowledge this. But that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

Valdespin is on his way back while Kirk will most likely go on the DL with a bruised right hand.

Tony, just out of curiosity, did you see the Mets 50th Anniversary All-Timers show on SNY? Just wondering what you thought of it.
