I know you're thinking of Keuchel and McHugh, but we can also add Nick Tropeano (who pitches tonight) to the mix. He's got some good stuff and has gotten off to a good start. And, really, Brett Oberholtzer has been better than his won-lost record would suggest. He is expected to be with them next year. They're also talking about Mike Foltynewicz for the rotation next season. He'd been in the bullpen so he can be able to use his pitches and get used to the major league environment.

Even with Mark Appel and Josh Hader on the way, those five I've mentioned are expected to make Houston's five next year, barring any problems in Spring Training.

Astros finally (and I mean, finally) get to 70 wins this season with last night's win over the Mets in New York. While that usually isn't a big deal under most circumstances, this is a step in the right direction for Houston.

Two games remain. It's going to be, at least, a 19-game improvement over last year.

In addition, Jeff Luhnow is continuing to interview candidates to be the Astros' next manager. Stay tuned.

The Astros have a new manager. I've got reservations about him, but the powers that be say he has what it takes.

Congrats to the 'Stros for the progress they made this year. If they can hang onto their good young talent we may see them contending in the foreseeable future.

It's encouraging, to say the least. By the way, I nailed my 70-win prediction with the way things ended, as I knew they'd be better (but next year's prediction could be harder). Imagine if George Springer stays healthy every day next season. They will need that.

Update: The Astros have a mostly-new coaching staff for this next season. Brent Strom will be retained as the pitching coach. And one of the Rangers' most recent departures, Gary Pettis, moves into Astroville.

The Astros had gone into the offseason with the mission of upgrading their bullpen. Tonight, they did that and then some! I believe they've just gotten 15 to 20 games better with this pair of moves.

Absolutely great move, and one that very few are really talking about, given that a lot of big acquisitions have taken place in the last day or so. Those are two guys with quirky windups and deliveries, and they'll make a huge difference in that bullpen next year. You guys are going to be fantastic!

They just acquired Evan Gattis from Atlanta. He'd be scary in that lineup, especially if Springer stays healthy and Singleton hits consistently.
