Case44 - Are you stoked for the season this year?

The preseason expectations are strange for a Houston sports team. After the Rockets flopped his year, cautious expectations are the norm right now.

I'll make my predictions shortly. They'll show up on my blog page but will make a condensed version for either here or another thread.

Yep. Very excited about this year's group.

Pretty wild that SI, of all people, picked us!

Strong outing by Keuchel & Carlos showing he's ready for season 2!

If only the pitching were as good the last two games as it was in the first game, we'd likely be 3-0 now. Instead, Houston is off to a 1-2 start. We need to bounce back in Milwaukee.

Watch for Tyler White, y'all. The rookie is starting so hot right now. Four RBIs in last night's loss.

Keuchel and Gregerson contributed nicely in Friday's 1-0 win over Detroit.

Time to turn things around here. Pitching needs to get way better, especially from Giles (three home runs allowed already) and the offense needs to get more productive and stay consistent.

The Astros leave Seattle with a victory, but yet another series lost. They need to improve their road play if they're going to compete for the division. Pitching is still not where it needs to be. McHugh is not the lights-out starter he was last year, but it doesn't mean that he can't get his rhythm back.

They now venture off to Oakland to begin their weekend series.

I was looking for Houston to regress this season, but for the wrong reasons.

I couldn't see their offense. It seemed a badly thought out scheme...nine guys who all could hit the ball out of the park, but no one with any on base skills to score ahead of them. An offense built around solo home runs is inefficient.

But it has been their pitching which has failed them so far in 2016. Last year they were 5th in runs scored in the AL, this year they are 6th. They had a .315 OBA last year, they have a .315 OBA so far this season. But their 3.57 team ERA led the AL in 2015, and they have gone to the polar extreme, currently last in the AL with a 4.97 ERA.

Houston certainly woke up last night.

Shellacked the Twins at home, 16-4. Everybody got into it. Time for more of that tonight at Minute Maid, and let's just win a series (Heck, they've got at least a tie in this one). We'll have Seattle coming in tomorrow.

By the way, the 16 runs the Astros scored last night were the most in a home game since 2007. Just last fall, they scored 21 in a game in Phoenix.

Correction: The Seattle series began tonight, so the Astros did win the Twins series. Jose Altuve has done it again. Another leadoff homer.
