I saw Correa, Springer & Altuve at Disney World today. They were in a parade down Main Street USA. Very cool!

Default How the Houston Astros Finally Hit on a Formula That Worked for Them

Congratulations again to the Houston Astros, their fans, and the city of Houston. How the Houston Astros Finally Hit on a Formula That Worked for Them is the title of a piece in today's NY Times.

Excerpt: "Jeff Bagwell wore a white cap emblazoned with a white four-leaf clover. It was subtle enough to miss, but appropriate when cheering for a franchise never known for good luck. ... “Nobody wanted us to win this whole thing,” Bagwell said on the field at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday after the Astros’ 5-1 victory in Game 7. “Everybody wanted the other teams, the big teams. We beat the Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers. That’s pretty strong.” They began as the expansion Colt .45s in 1962. In all the years since,.....

Astros have a roster built for success for years to come

A lot of young talent under club control for years to come

Myself not an Astros fan ... but congrats to them nevertheless. Great win by a great bunch of players.

They won it on the field with their bats and gloves and kept the jaw jacking trash talk out of it - class act all the way

Fans and the city should be very proud of them. They defeated a very GOOD Dodgers team without home field advantage.

Now, we look ahead to the future. Here comes a link to a new Sports Illustrated cover. Remember when they predicted a 2017 championship and George Springer as the MVP?? Well, they're back with a bold prediction for the future. Take a look:

Thanks for posting that. I make it the desktop background on the Mac partition on my MacBook Air.

I just noticed your status message . Last night I saw a new shirt for the first time....World Champs as part of the stenciling, rather than World Series Champions.....and head likenesses of Bregman, Keuchel, Correa, Springer, Verlander, and Altuve, with their names, signatures, and donning caps with their respective uniform numbers on the fronts of the caps....so I bought the shirt.

There was a link on either the MSN or Yahoo homepage earlier this week...something along the lines of -- 'Verlander....possibly the best week anyone has experienced' -- (winning a World Championship and marrying Kate Upton in Italy in the same week).

I'd say everything's just gone right for the Astros this year. Just count the storylines. Bagwell's HOF induction, four starting pitchers on the DL, Harvey, six All-Stars, countless big plays, walk-offs, Ric Flair, Kate Upton, an AL pennant, the World Champions, an engagement, and a wedding.

Sports Illustrated could never have written this any better. Neither could Shakespeare.

Well done!

Well, the Astros certainly were not idle this offseason. They couldn't get a new lefty for their 'pen, but they did nab Joe Smith and Hector Rondon from the right side to give Ken Giles a challenge.

The big story for acquisitions is Gerrit Cole coming from Pittsburgh. He could break through after years of potential.
