Yeah, bummed by that. Why would you want to leave a championship-caliber team?

Prefer the role on the new team to the old team
Prefer the money offered by the new to to the old team
Prefer playing in one city to another

Plus any number of other reasons

I would think a good chance at another championship would outweigh all but $$$.

If Houston decides to stick with two catchers, then the following scenario will present itself:

It's way too early to panic, but Alex Bregman did have a brief scare today. And it's not his elbow, either.

He'll be playing on Friday.

Keeping fingers crossed.

And congratulations to him on the contract extension .

I heard about it last night on the news.

5 years - $100 million

It's the second largest pre-arbitration contract in history, trailing only the 6yr/$144 million contract Trout signed in 2014.

I think Alex will be fine, health-wise. He's gotten the contract situation behind him, so now, there's no distraction.

Next up, they'll need to ponder extensions for Springer, Correa, Verlander, and Cole. A big chunk of the pitching staff will be slated to become free agents after this year. And Pressly just got two years added.

Verlander and Bregman are set for a little bit. The Astros can breathe again.
