My goodness, what have we here? The Athletics are getting a little revenge, and I think they've taken the Mariners with them in spirit.

Oakland has scored (thus far) 19 runs tonight against the same 'Stros that walloped them and the Mariners the last two nights. An unbelievable turnaround of sorts. And Wade Miley, erstwhile 13-4, has tanked in his last couple of starts. We can't have him struggle like this in September.

Back to back massacres, but with different teams doing the slaughtering.

Houston's infield is now Tucker-Diaz-Straw and Toro.

Who are they?

Bottom of the 9th and it's 20-5. The only remaining suspense is if the A's can become the first team in history to lose to a club by 15 runs and beat that club by 15 or more runs the next day.
And Houston would become the first to defeat a club by 15 runs and the next day...etc

There's like 225 people left in the stands. They started bailing in the 5th when Houston put in the scrubs.

Damn...Maldonado home run. 20-6. So much for history.

Tonight, I'll be begging for a 1-0 game.

Come on now. They're young players getting a chance to play and see what September is like. Straw is very fast around the bases, so he is a weapon when he gets on. Tucker, as you know, is a top prospect. We might as well just rest the starters for now.

Astros wrap things up against Oakland tonight at MMP. They need the split in this series before heading for Kansas City.

Tucker, who was ahead with 2 balls and 1 strike in the count, swung and missed at the last two pitches with the bases loaded in the 8th to end the 8th, and Verlander (already out of the game after the 6th) ended up having his sixth loss recorded.

Verlander's stats page on ESPN.com has been updated with last night's stats, and his 'projected' stats (per that stats page) include 2 more wins (for a total of 20), one more loss (#7), 19 more innings (for a total of 225), giving up 12 more hits (including 3 home runs), giving up 6 more earned runs, giving up 4 more walks...and striking out 26 more, for a total of 301 strikeouts for the regular season.
