White Sox land Francisco Liriano for SS Eduardo Escobar and P Pedro Hernandez
.

Neither of these prospects are particularly impressive. As Orangeish mentioned the White Sox system is pretty weak right now. Apparently the Sox were hoping to trade a big league hitter for prospects to move for Greinke.

Anyway, some people will groan when they see Liriano's 3-10 record and 5+ ERA. But his strikeout, walk and batted ball rates indicate he should be giving up closer to 4 runs per nine.

this is the biggest trade between the two clubs since 1986 when the Twins fleeced the Sox for Juan Agosto and Kurt Walker in exchange for Pete Filson.

That was two separate transactions.

In April 1986, the Twins purchased Agusto.

The Filson for Walker deal took place in September 1986.

I don't understand the term "fleecing" as the three players involved pitched very poorly for their new teams. It was more of a garbage for garbage deal.

Take Houston Street of the list

He signs for 2 years with the Padres at $7 million per year.

Street is having a dominant season, but a closer is the least of the Padres needs. Still, what's $7 million? Nothing.

ROSTER MOVE: #Dbacks acquire 3B Chris Johnson from #Astros in exchange for @MarcKrauss25 and Bobby Borchering.
Definitely like the move for Houston, not sure about Arizona.

The DBacks are struggling at 3B, but I'm not a Chris Johnson fan. Johnson doesn't get on base and doesn't hit for enough power to offset his poor defense. At his best he's an average player.

Neither Krauss nor Borchering is a sure-fire can't miss prospect, but both are former highly regarded prospects, who have struggled recently. Two players with a chance of panning out are better than one player who will not.

Phillies would be beyond stupid to NOT trade Victorino. Amaro is severely dilusional if he thinks his team still has a chance at the playoffs this year. If I were him I'd look at trading Lee too, but at least with him you can build around the pitchers and hope they pitch better next year. Phillies sure as hell ain't resigning him (Victorino) next year with all the money they owe the starting rotation. I know the Pirates want him, and if I'm able to get Starling Marte and another B or C level type prospect back from the Pirates for a 2 month rental of Victorino (because he won't probably won't resign in Pittsburgh) that's an absolute steal for the Phillies.

Updating the Sanchez-Guthrie trade.

So far it has been lose/lose for both teams, neither pitcher has shown any improvement in their new environments.

Guthrie has made two starts for KC and been rocked twice, 11 earned runs in ten innings of pitching.

Sanchez has also been hitter friendly, also giving up 11 earned runs in two starts, but requiring two fewer innings to do so than Guthrie.

Both have excelled at running up really fat pitch counts. Sanchez needed 82 pitches to record 4 innings his first start, then 84 to record 4.1 innings. Guthrie needed 105 pitches to finish the fifth inning three days ago, 91 pitches for five innings in his previous start.

ETA: for Jake Brigham. Brigham is a 24 year old righty pitching unspectacularly in AA. He looks like a guy, nothing special
