There was a pretty damning article published in the Seattle Times last month, and it seems to be more than just sour grapes from a couple ex-employees.

Article makes it quite ironic that the M's went 87-75 for the 2014 season. Bittersweet as well. A winning season, and a season where the M's were in contention, but were eliminated in the very last second, not because they lost, but because someone else won.

Fast-forwarding 32 months from the date of the above quote, Ichiro is no longer with the Yankees and I'm going to miss him. He played a lot more last year than anyone expected because of all the injuries we had. Now that he's gone, I hope he gets enough playing time to reach 3,000 hits before teams stop offering him contracts.

I hope he comes back for a farewell tour the way Griffey did.

That is the sort of luxury in which a club may indulge if it appears to be a non competitive or rebuilding year. Giving a roster spot to someone who is now a below average player for sentimental reasons, may help at the box office but it hurts on the field.

In that the Mariners appear to be poised for at least a few seasons of competitive baseball in September, sentiment should be a back burner concern.
