As I was looking through the standings, I realized that I am pretty excited as it stands now for the second wild card in the MLB. It adds another layer of hope for more teams, and it seems that the later regular season games will mean more, for more teams. I also don't see it watering anything down, seeing how it is a one game playin, it's still VERY important to win your division. Even the elite teams would be only slightly favored in any one game play in.

Now the challenge from this really comes from the implentation, and we will have to see how things like schedules and travel (especially if there is a playoff, to the WC playin game). And this might be a total disaster. BUT, as it stands now, I like it.

I wish it was a full series. The one game is kind of a bummer.

not me, I think the one game is perfect. it would be a mistake to make the division winners sit idle for a week or more, waiting for a playoff series to end.

a couple of reasons I like the addition of the 2nd wild card:

1) it gives hope to many more fan bases= good for baseball

2) the wild card teams most likely will have to use there best starter in the play in game. rendering them at a slight disadvantage going into the division round.

too often the wild card has been settled early enough, so the winner gets to set up there rotation and are on equal footing with one of the top seads in there league entering a playoff series.

so that creats this scenerio: (Sept 1st) the Yanks and the Rays, both are likely shoe ins for the post season, the Yanks have a 2 game lead in the division and the Rays have a 6 game lead in the WC, they play each other 6 more times.

in the 1 wild card system there's no drama, both teams are cruising to the playoffs.

with the 2nd wildcard, there's a much bigger advantage to winning your division. instead of rolling the dice in a play in game.

JMO, looking forward to it
