He's eligible to win the NL batting championship. Here come more asterisks.

Will the NL have to forfeit the All Star win, and give the AL home field?

Nothing like that is going to happen because if they started in on award adjustments following the disgrace of the recipient, we would have an awful lot misfires to handle.

To wit:
Using the criteria of players who were either caught by bloodtests, made personal confessions, were listed in the Mitchell report, were ratted out by their trainers or identified as having been personally injected by Jose Canseco in his books, and applying that to the MVP and Cy Young award winners of the last two decades, we have a total of 19 major awards for this group.

PED MVPs:
1996 NL MVP..Ken Caminiti
1996 AL MVP..Juan Gonzalez
1997 AL Cy Young..Roger Clemens
1998 AL MVP..Juan Gonzalez
1998 NL MVP..Sammy Sosa
1998 AL Cy Young..Roger Clemens
1999 AL MVP..Ivan Rodriguez,
2000 AL MVP..Jason Giambi
2001 NL MVP..Barry Bonds
2001 AL Cy Young Roger Clemens
2002 AL MVP..Miguel Tejada
2002 NL MVP Barry Bonds
2003 AL MVP..Alex Rodriguez
2003 NL MVP Barry Bonds
2003 NL Cy Young..Eric Gagne
2004 NL MVP..Barry Bonds
2004 NL Cy Young..Roger Clemens
2005 AL MVP..Alex Rodriguez
2011 NL MVP..Ryan Braun.

During this time period PEDs players won three batting titles, thirteen home run championships and nine RBI titles. Manny Ramirez was the 2004 World Series MVP.

No wonder I don't follow baseball much anymore. Everything after about 1996 or 97, is suspect.

50 games is too short. 75 for a first time offense. I'd go really long the second time, maybe 150, maybe 2 or 3 years. You've got to send a message.

I wonder what baseball will do in another 10 or 20 years. What if people start having chips implanted in them? A PED chip, or testosterone chip? The technology is already high. The technology to avoid detection will probably only go higher.

If you want to send a message a first offense should be a 1 year suspension without pay which would include 162 games and any potential playoffs. Second offense-lifetime ban.

I originally thought this as well
however, if you google the internets you'll find that Melky apparently created a fake website promoting a fake product which he, allegedly, was going to use to claim that he unknowingly used the banned substance.

Yeah, but after his pathetic, transparent attempt to escape the consequences of his getting caught cheating fell apart, Melky was a real man and owned up to his malfeasance.

Lost in the Ryan Braun saga was the fact that before he escaped on a technicality, his defense to MLB (according to MLB) was that his positive test had been caused by a substance contained by a medication he was taking for a "private medical issue."

But...in the aftermath of the overturned suspension, that whole line of defense was abandoned and Braun stated that there was no medication, no private medical issue....and never had been.

And...the Dodgers' chances to win the NL West just improved.

Giants position players by fWAR
Posey - 5.0
Melky - 4.5

Pagan - 2.2
Blanco - 1.9
Pandoval - 1.7
Belt - 1.5
Crawford 1.1

The Melkman's contributions will certainly be missed in the Giants' lineup.

They should have to vacate some of the wins. But baseball wants to keep turning a blind eye.
