Melky Cabrera, whose breakout season with the San Francisco Giants was highlighted by his MVP performance in the All-Star Game, has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for testosterone, Major League Baseball announced.
I'm a Giants fan and even though this really hurts the team's post season chances, I'm glad that he was caught. He has been defrauding us all the entire season.
It is good that he was nailed before he signed his next contract because it would have been based on Melkey the .350 hitter he has been this year rather than the .275 hitter he was before 2012.
These 50 game suspensions haven't been sufficient to discourage everyone and MLB ought to start giving lifetime bans for first offenses. What is more important than having the fans know that what they are paying to watch is on the level rather than chemical heroics?
I'm very disappointed. I'm playing fantasy baseball in a 20 team league and Melky's been carrying me this year. I guess there was a reason he was playing so well.
Melky, a free agent at the end of the year, will lose significant money as the result of the failed test. Teams would have been falling over each other trying to give him something along the lines of a 5 year $60 million deal. Now he'll be on the 1 year $2-5 million with incentives plan.
And...the Dodgers' chances to win the NL West just improved.

Melky - 4.5
“My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used,” Cabrera said in a statement (via the San Francisco Chronicle’s Hank Schulman). “I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”

Yea I to drop him in my 12 man league
There is nobody even close to his numbers out there in free agency
Performance enhancing drugs in baseball has been around since the 1920's.
No need for it to stop now!
There's NO DOUBT #sfgiants heard possibility of Melky failing test at time acquired Pence. Again, was strong whisper of this in late July
