Clearly it is a a conspiracy against Bay Area athletes, no doubt the Bilderberg Group flying over the stadiums in their Black Helicopters and shooting tiny steroids filled darts into key players so as to make sure that .....

No..wait! Its the Taliban! They wish to discredit the ultra liberal Bay Area blasphemers and cannot afford the athletic triumph of teams from this den of hedonism and infidelity.

Well Bartolo Colon is such a muscular, in shape guy it was really obvious that he was using...oh wait.

Seriously though, his resurgance at his age was a pretty clear indicator though. This isn't surprising at all.

Apparently word has not gotten around yet that the testing is getting better.

I wonder if Braun getting off the hook made a few other players bold this year in trying to get back on the juice.

That would not seem likely, Braun got off on a chain of custody technicality, a loophole which has now been closed. No one would conclude that they could count on the same stroke of fortune which saved Braun.

Victor Conte, the founder of Balco Labs, explained that testosterone levels are allowed to be elevated 3 or 4 times normal amounts before MLB considers it beyond the possibility of non PEDs causes. Testosterone has become the cheat drug of choice because of this. The first 8 to 10 hours after use your levels are off the charts, but after that they slide back to where they are only 3 or 4 times above normal. Thus, players could get away with testosterone use even next day testing.

Of course if some player was constantly testing at 2 or 3 times normal levels, while legal in MLB eyes, that would certainly send out warning signals to the testers that this person was likely to be using testosterone. I would imagine that such players get earmarked for more frequent surprise tests and that is how they get caught.

The post Colostomy A's are 1-0, defeating the Twins 5-1 this afternoon at the Coliseum. Of course Big Bartolo wouldn't have been involved in today's game regardless, his turn comes up tomorrow in Tampa Bay.

Rather than Colon, the A's will be sending Tyson Ross to the mound to make the start. He is 2-8 with a 6.35 ERA in 12 starts so far this year. In 62 innings he has struck out 35, and walked 30.

He hasn't had a start since the end of June. He has faced the Rays once before, on May 7th he lasted three and a third innings, giving up nine hits and seven runs.

Synthetic testosterone is still really tough to test for, it's usually out of your system within hours, and with no blood testing for HGH in the majors, it's a miracle anyone still gets caught.

No one is arguing that professional athletes are rocket scientists. They're pretty much idiots that they continue to do this and get caught.
