Yikes. MLB announces suspension of three Rays Class A players for using meth: Ryan Brett, Charles Cononie and Justin Woodall.
Ryan Brett was fairly highly rated.

Obviously athletic ability and brains don't go hand-in-hand...

What a shame.

baseball is a competetive sport and the players have looked for an edge ever since the sports inception. and I still think 3/4's of the league are doing it

Players claimed it was "unfortunate" and "unintentional". Unintentional? How?

You are sitting down in your living room for an evening of tv watching, you reach for your pipe to have a relaxing smoke, and because your eyes are on the tv, you accidentally move your hand past the tobacco pouch and instead pick up the crystal meth. You take a puff and ...wo! That's not Dunhill Vanilla...but, too late, you have already contaminated yourself.

Or...as a joke someone substitutes meth for the snuff in your snuff box.

Or...you are invited to a Hell's Angels initiation ceremony. You had no idea in advance that shooting up meth was required of all the guests...and you didn't want to be rude....

You have to keep an open mind about these things.

Tampa Bay Rays Prospect Ryan Brett Releases Statement Denying Meth Use - SB Nation Tampa Bay

Quote:
According to his agent, Nik Lubisich, of Northwest Sports Management Group, Brett has asserted these test results could only be the result of a single incident in which the evening before this random drug test he took an energy pill that was described to him as caffeine-like, but which apparently turned out to be a common form of Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD) medication, Adderall. This was an unintentional and unfortunate one-time event that has significantly impacted Brett, who is widely seen as one of Tampa Bay’s top young prospects.

From their perspective, it was both "unfortunate" and "unintentional" that they got caught.
