They just aren't a good team right now.

I'd be surprised if more than a few players on this team were part of any future competitive teams.
They actually have made excellent strides; Tejada, Murphy, Davis, Wright, Harvey, Niese are all going to be the core of competitive teams.

I'm not shocked by the Phils; in reality, their offense IMO has been riding on fumes the last few years. Rollins lost his tablesetting ability; Victorino offensively seemed less potent; Utley is decimated by too many injuries, and as good as RH is, his days of 45 HRs and 125 RBIs are over. Too much pressure on the starters.

Their front office activity at the deadline -- getting Brent Lillibridge -- accomplished nothing other than infuriating the already testy fan base. There's not anyone in the organization from the owner on down that I'm particularly interested in keeping at this point. It's a debacle. Blow the whole thing up and start over.
Considering they were what, 3 games or so over at the ASB, I'd say their downturn has been surprisingly bad. 5-24 in the month of August. So, compared to expectations at the beginning of the season, the record wouldn't be a disappointment. Compared to their record at the ASB it is.

Answer to the OP: Red Sox (AL) Phillies (NL)

I agree that the Phillies have been hugely disappointing, considering they have one of the highest payrolls in all of baseball.

Is it too late the nominate the Pirates for this thread?? They had their high water mark of 63-47 on the morning of August 9, and are 3 losses away from another below .500 seasons. With a loss to R.A. Dickey and the Mets Tuesday and with a series loss to the Reds over the weekend, they will pull almost the impossible: go from 16 over .500 on August 9 to finishing the season under .500. That's pretty damn near hard to do.

I would have to agree...didn't they do the same last year?

For me the Rockies are most disappointing. Their pitching staff blew one lead after another on their way to a terrible season, and key players suffered injuries.

Or the A's really are that good. Give your team more credit man!

The Rangers are still in the playoffs as one of the two wild cards, which is what many analysts picked them to be to begin with.

However, they looked at the wrong AL West team to win the division
