Washington Post sportswriter Thomas Boswell wrote this piece 25 years ago, explaining why Baseball is Better than Football. Worth getting out and re-reading. How much of it is still true?
Personally, I remember being a bit disappointed with it at the time, it didn't seem very elegant for a major professional sportswriter. I wanted then to see #100 -- "Football is Oofs and Grunts. Baseball is the crack of the bat and the pop of the mitt."
Twenty five years ago, baseball was not too expensive to attend compared to football. Now they're both too expensive.
Baseball can be quite reasonably priced. In DC you can walk or take the Metro to Nationals Park (thus no cost for parking) and you can get grandstand tickets for $5, outfield gallery tickets for $10, or infield gallery tickets for $18. You can even bring in your own food and a sealed water bottle. So you can basically see professional sports for less than the cost of a movie or the cost of a couple of drinks.

That's not so bad. (I attended a Nationals game using Metro a few years ago...plus, we did buy the cheap tickets and it was real easy to sneak down to the field seats when the usher wasn't looking - plus the beer sold down there was higher quality....)
My experience has been with Dodger Stadium. Only 25 years ago tickets were pretty cheap, food was not cheap (maybe $2 for a Dodger Dog) but it wasn't a complete rip like it is now. Now it is crazy. Fortunately I used a ticket broker and got really good seats for really cheap. But parking was like $15 (I think Magic lowered it to $10). Also, these days I would be taking my kids thus quadrupling my expenses.

Parking is a rip-off at most sports venues and sitting in traffic before and after the games sucks. That is why I really enjoy the sports venues you can walk or take public transportation to.
I was disappointed w/ the design of Nationals Park when I first saw it, but I have now attended about six games there (took the metro to all but one) and I have found it is a really enjoyable experience b/c it is well located, the stadium is comfy, all the seats are good, and tickets are not ridiculously expensive. Which is completely the opposite of say going to a Redskins game at FedEx which will take you all day and cost a fortune, and you will be so far from the action you can barely tell what is going on.
I'm still single so I usually pay for just myself or possibly the GF. Paying for four would be a different deal...
