I guess this is what a bad bullpen looks like from the outside?? Woof! At least in the Nats case they actually held onto win, 2 outs 2 strikes home run by Robles and than Soto hit a 3 run homer in the 10th to win it (with Robles adding an insurance RBI double later on).

Nats 10 @ Phillies 6 (10 innings).
Realmuto lead the Phillies with 3 hits, and Maikel Franco 2 runs, 2 hits and an RBI with a home run. Andrew McCutchen had a run scored, Segura had a run scored and 2 RBI's, Bryce Harper had a run scored and 3 RBI's with a 3 run homer, and starting pitcher Nola had a run scored. Nola allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits (2 home runs) with a walk and 3 strikeouts in 6 1/3, Dominguez (2nd hold), and Hector Neris (2nd hold) allowed 2 walks and a strikeout in a hitless 1 2/3, Edubray Ramos (1st blown save) allowed 1 run on 1 hit (1 home run) with a strikeout in 2/3's of an inning, and Jose Alvarez (0-1) allowed 4 runs on 6 hits (1 home run) with 2 strikeouts in 1 1/3. Robles (2 RBI's, 2 runs scored, 1 home run) lead the Nats with 3 hits while Anthony Rendon (2 RBI's, 1 run scored), Yan Gomes (2 RBI's, 1 run scored, first Nats home run), and Wilmer Difo all had 2 hits. Soto had 3 RBI's and a run scored with a home run, and Howie Kendrick also had a run scored and RBI with a home run. Ryan Zimmerman had 2 runs scored while Adam Eaton and Brian Dozier each scored a run. Strasburg allowed 6 runs on 6 hits (2 home runs) with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts in 4 innings, and Sean Doolittle (3-0) allowed a walk with 2 strikeouts in 1 2/3 hitless innings. Marlins were shut out in Cincinnati 14-0, Mets lose to the Twins 8-14, and the Braves beat the Rockies 7-1 in other NL East action. Phillies remain in first at 7-3 a half game up on the 7-4 Braves, New York is a game back at 6-4, Washington is 5-5 and sit 2 games back while the Marlins are 4.5 back at 3-8.

The finale of the 3 game series is on Wednesday: Jeremy Hellickson (0-0, 9.00) starts for the Nats against Nick Pivetta (1-0, 6.52) with first pitch slated for 7:05.

Looks like the bullpen pooped their pants again vs. the Pirates last night. Too bad they can't score double digit runs all games because that's about the only way they'll win games.

Default 7-7

Starting pitchers gave up 6 runs in 22 innings this 3 game series yet we lost the series due to the trash bullpen. Back on the wagon for the Giants which starts on Tuesday after a Monday off day.

To quote ole Yogi here "it gets late early" and for the Nats it could be lights out. After this 3 game series in Colorado ends (starting with yet ANOTHER come from ahead loss ) the next 27!!! games will be against NL contenders: Padres, Cardinals, Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs & Mets again. Yikes! I could see a realistic scenario where they only get 5 or 6 wins out of that stretch, I mean if they are 3-4 in so far 7 games against the dregs of the NL (Giants, Marlins & Rockies) how are they supposed to beat some of those teams?? The 10 game road trip through Philly, Milwaukee & LA could be the proverbial "that's when the wheels fell off the bus" moment of the season. 1-9, 2-8, even 3-7 and that's probably all she wrote. Really, I wouldn't be at all surprised if at the end of May 23 when that 27 game stretch ends that they are in last place in the division behind the Marlins.

In a game where teams are putting in bullpen pitchers as "openers", the Nats can't win with one of the worst pens in the league and a manager the Lerners picked out of the bargain bin.

They're gonna lose at least 85, but it would have been worse if they had re-signed Harper so he could K twice a game.

That should merit an award ceremony from the league, IMO.

Nats bullpen blows another one!!! This time from Sean Doolittle, so even our best guy has encountered the rotten stench. Another no decision from Scherzer: 2 runs in 7 innings, but he did have a 2-0 lead and gave it away. After tying the game at 3, on rookie Carter Kieboom's home run, in his first major league game (not even Vladdy Jr topped that!) Doolittle surrendered the game-winning blast to Hunter Renfroe, and after loading the bases with 3 walks on Kirby Yates, he struck out Kieboom to end it. By the way, this is the start of the 9th series of the year and the Nats are 1-8 in opening games of the series, but are 5-3 in second games of series, and 5-2 in 3rd games of series (they have yet to play a 4 game series, and 1 series was only a 2 game set) which is a big reason why the Nats haven't been swept, but also haven't had any sweeps so far. It's great that were at the end of April, and need to lose this next 2 games at home to finish the month without getting swept, not even the 2 teams that played for the World Series last year can stake that claim, but at the same time we will know officially finish April without having a sweep as well, so when you combine the 2, that makes you a very mediocre team, which is exactly what the Nats are at the moment. And the quality of SP this team has, even with Strasburg struggling and Scherzer only managing 1 win at the moment, is enough to not cause any big losing streaks which will prevent getting swept.....however....the dumpster fire bullpen will likewise extinguish a lot of potential winning streaks hence not getting a lot of sweeps. Not a lot worth watching at 1500 S Capital Avenue this year.

Holy crap, is this team bad or what?? 6 runs in the 10th inning?? Reviewing a play in an 8-2 game that results in Hosmer moving up an extra base. What a disaster! Fire Dave, Fire Rizzo, sell everyone that will not be here in 2021!

Bullpens have been a disaster in most of MLB. O/S of Diaz, I am not happy with Met pen first 25 games. Nats are worse still in pen, but I can't blame a manager for an overall MLB problem. I did think from day 1, you lack a true closer, btw. Kimbrel should have been a National already. Its gonna take him several weeks to be ready, no doubt.

If Mets must pay Cano millions more than his true value per year, well worth it to get Diaz. All Kimbrel would cost the Nats is money Spend it.
