Nats 1 @ Braves 4.

Not going to win many games recording 4 hits & 1 run which is what the Nats output was today. Wisler did a good job against them unlike last week when he got beat around like a piñata. Once again I was working late, so I'll let Major Barbara, Carolina Knight or both fill in the necessary details.

Thursday wraps up the series slate, before the Nats head home to take on the Giants Friday to Sunday. Thursday's pitching matchup is Max Scherzer for the Nats taking on Manny Banueles for the Braves making his major league debut. This seems like a complete mismatch on paper but in the first couple turns through the league, the pitcher definitely has the advantage, so we'll see if Banueles can take advantage. Him (Banueles) along with Betances were supposed to be the young, rising stars of the 2017 on Yankees, but Banueles was swapped for David Carpenter in the off season. Since Carpenter is no longer even with the Yankees, John Hart & the Braves have won that trade by default, and even if Banueles can give the Braves slightly above average for his tenure in the ATL then it'll be a complete steal.

It's Banuelos.

Long day here. Gave up during the 2:09 rain delay. Took a quick look at the box this morning and skipped the replay. Didn't look like there would be much of interest

Nats 1 @ Braves 2.

Nats combined for 2 runs and 9 hits the final 2 games of this series after getting 1 run on 5 hits tonight after a 1 hit on 4 hit effort Wednesday. 99 Pedro Martinez & 01 Randy Johnson could be pitching those 2 games and it would be tough to win. 2 runs and 9 hits in a single game sometimes isn't even good enough to win! Cameron Maybin had the walkoff hit with a 1 out single. Tough luck for Scherzer. Not the best lately he's pitched but 5 hits allowed 2 runs 9 strikeouts, 0 walks in 8 1/3 and he's the losing pitcher. That's baseball for you though. At least the Mets can't score either so the Nats maintain that lead.

Friday starts at 3 game series with the Giants. Jake Peavy making his first start since April 17 takes the ball for the Giants. He'll be opposed by Gio Gonzalez for the Nats. Game time slated for 6:05 PM (1 hour earlier due to the 11 AM Independence day game Saturday), and is available nationally on ESPN.

Giants 1 @ Nats 2.

All scoring came in the 7th inning. Giants got 11 in the top half, Clint Robinson followed a Harper walk with a 2 run homer for the games final margin. Excellent pitchers duel between Jake Peavy & Gio Gonzalez.

Saturday continues the series with a great matchup: Madison Bumgarner for the Giants taking on Stephen Strasburg for the Nats. Game time at 11:05 AM.

Giants 3 @ Nats 9.

About the only thing that went wrong for the Nats on this 4th of July holiday matinee was Strasburg lasting just 3 2/3 innings due to tightness in his side. The Nats battered around Giants ace Madison Bumgarner pounding him for 8 hits, 6 runs (2 home runs) with only 4 strikeouts in 5 innings. Michael Taylor lead off the game with a Home run, Harper added a 2 run homer in the first, and Tyler Moore hitting 8th finished 3-4 and had 4 RBI's to lead the attack.

The finale of the 3 game series is the ESPN game of the week, so when you combine the 11:25 start Saturday and the 8 PM start Sunday, we got pretty much a full day off. Ryan Vogelsong takes the ball for the Giants who will be opposed by Jordan Zimmermann for the Nats. 3 game home series against the Reds begins on Monday night.

Giants 1 @ Nats 3.

Nats scored first in the 2nd, Giants tied it up in the 3rd. Nats got the last 2 in the later innings I think the 5th and 7th or 6th & 8th.

3 game series with the Reds begins tonight. Anthony Descalfani for the Reds takes on Doug Fister for the Nats. Game time 7:10 PM

Reds 3 @ Nats 2.

Eugenio Suarez hit the go ahead home run in the 8th inning off of Casey Jannsen. Nats lost Denard Span AND Yunel Escobar to injury this game so the bench took a hit. With Taylor as the tying run on second in the 9th, the last 2 options on the bench were Emmanuel Burris & Jose Loboton, and Loboton was completely overmatched against Aroldis Chapman.

Second game of the 3 game series goes tomorrow: Johnny Cueto for the Reds vs. Max Scherzer for the Nats. Game goes at 7:05.
