Actually Thursday's game concludes the series because last night's game was rained out. It's Tillman vs. Roark tomorrow and Wilson vs. Scherzer on Thursday.

Or maybe it will be Scherzer tomorrow. Guess ESPN is wrong. Will be Roark vs. Wilson on Thursday. Probably low scoring tomorrow, high scoring Thursday.

Not much to see here as both teams are playing the string out on disappointing seasons. Both pitchers struggled with control early on, but only the Orioles were able to take advantage as the Nats couldn't hit water if they fell out of an oil tanker sailing through the Pacific, as they finished the game with only 3 or 4 hits I believe. Mets lost, so deficit remains at 6.5 games, and from here it's pretty much win out. After game 151 in 2007 (Mets have 11 games left, we have 12), the Mets were only up 2.5 games, and ended up losing 3.5 games in 9 days when they fell to 1 back of Philly after game 160. This would be the biggest collapse in baseball history if the Mets lost this one, but they have to win, losing is not an option anymore.

Wednesday concludes the series: Chris Tillman starts for Baltimore and he will be opposed by Max Scherzer for the Nats after all. Maybe Williams reads this after all....
You must be tired...Thursday concludes it as makeup for Monday rainout.

Orioles 4 @ Nats 3.

Thanks Bob & Rarog, yes today was the 2nd game. I was too frustrated and too tired to update the error after I posted, but at least other people are actually paying attention .

As for today's game: Crush Davis had a 2 run opposite field homer to left in the first, Nats got 1 back in the bottom half. Stayed 2-1 until the 5th when Ramos had a double to score Michael A Taylor from first, and then 2 batters later (after a Scherzer single) Rendon hit a sac fly to RF that somehow scored Ramos standing up. Since the Nats bullpen is sooooo bad, a 108 pitch Scherzer who is clearly laboring is better then ANY.OTHER.RELIEVER to use in that situation, goes out to start the 7th, gives up a single to J.J. Hardy, then a homer left-center to Machado. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! Mets just lost 2 of 3 to a AAA team masquerading as a major league team and actually gained a half game, so damn frustrating!

Thursday actually concludes the 3 game Beltway series and the season series between the 2 teams. Pitching matchup is Tyler Wilson (??) for Baltimore vs. Tanner Roark for Washington, game time at 4:05. Considering we couldn't do $#!t against Jimenez one of the worst pitchers in the AL the second half, and Tillman one of the worst pitchers in baseball outside a 3 week stretch in late June to mid July, I'm not expecting them to do much against Wilson. Hopefully I get proven wrong. Nats stay home to play the Phillies, while the Orioles continue their final road trip of the season as they go to Boston for 3 beginning on Friday.

Speaking of not paying attention, Davis had a walk, then Pearce hit the homer

I saw Wilson pitch last month when he filled in for Tillman when Tillman was out with an ankle injury or something. Wilson was pretty good, nothing special or overpowering, but got the job done. He was terrible in his most recent start though.

Orioles have used O'Day for the last 2 saves. Is something going on with Britton?

Not sure why Jimenez struggled the 2nd half, but he's got good stuff. Tillman was awesome the 2nd half until he rolled his ankle, missed some time, then had a string of bad starts. He's doing better lately though. Overall they haven't been the worst, they've been pretty average.

Why would the Nats want Papelbon? He sucks.

Thursday's odd 4: 05 start must be due to trying to avoid Pope traffic related issues. Getaway game would usually be 1:05 if daytime game.

If they play weekday afternoon games, it's usually at 4:05 for whatever reason. P

Didn't know that. I thought the Pope mobile might be going by. Did he get his Calvin Coolidge Bobblehead?

Orioles 5 @ Nats 4.

Any marginal chance they may have had with the Mets recent skid is now probably by the wayside as the elimination number falls to 4 and we have officially been eliminated from the Wildcard after this depressing loss.

Orioles got the scoring started in the 1st with a Machado single that scored Gerrardo Parra who lead off the game with a double. Jonathan Schoop added to the Orioles lead with a 2 run homer in the 4th. Nats got 2 runs back in the 5th, 1 on a sac fly from Rendon, driving Parra back to the wall, and then Escobar made it a 1 run game with a single. Ramos homered in the 7th to tie the game, and later in the inning Escobar had another RBI single to give the Nats the lead, but Rendon was thrown out at the plate, so the Nats only took a 4-3 lead, and the Orioles kept it a 4-3 lead when Machado robbed Werth on a hit down the line. Matt Weiters gave the Orioles the lead back in the top of the 8th with a 2 run homer, Nats got a lead off double from Clint Robinson in the 8th, but that run got erased on Desmond's bunt, and neither team made much of a threat the rest of the game as Darren O'Day got the top of the Nats order 1-2-3 in the 9th to close out the sweep, and for all intents and purposes have pulled the plug on the 2015 Nats and have taken them off life support. 7 games back currently (will be 7.5 if Mets win, 6.5 if Mets win [currently up 3-1 in the 3rd]) with 10 games to go I don't even think the Mets can blow this one. They could lose every single game from now until next Friday, but as long as they win 2 of 3 in the Nats series they'll still win the division. Such a depressing season with the bullpen blowing the 500th lead of the season it seems like

3 game series against the Phillies starts on Friday. Jared Eickoff takes the ball for the Phillies and he'll be opposed by Jordan Zimmermann for the Nats. Barring a monumental Mets collapse (and at this point that would be a historic collapse) this will likely be the second to last game Zimmermann pitches as a Nat, and the last game he'll pitch at Nats park. He's also taking the ball on Jordan Zimmermann bobble head night as well. Game time is scheduled for 7:05.

2015 MLB Team Pitching Stats - Major League Baseball - ESPN

Both NYM and Nats are in upper half by team bullpen ERA.

2015 MLB Team Pitching Stats - Major League Baseball - ESPN (The starter gap, NYM better than Nats by .34 is a game changer, though). Plus NYM starters went 50 more innings. Huge! #1 in MLB in starter IP!
