Giants 7 @ Nats 1.

Buster Posey single in the 4th made it 1-0 Giants, and a Joe Panik bases loaded walk made it 2-0. Brandon Belt double and a Brandon Crawford sac fly in the 5th made it 4-0. Posey sac fly in the 7th and an Ehire Adrianza single in the 8th made it a 6-0 blowout. Espi single in the 8th got the Nats on the board before a Belt home run in the 9th finished the scoring. Strasburg (15-2) allowed 4 runs on 8 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts in 4.2. Matt Cain (4-6) pitched 5 scoreless innings allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The final game of the 3 game series and the season series goes today with the rubber match in both the season & this series as each team has 3 wins in the best of 7 series. Madison Bumgarner (10-6, 2.25) takes the ball for the Giants, and he'll be opposed by Tanner Roark (11-6, 3.02). Game time at 1:35.

Turner will be a star. He is your young Reyes. Truthfully cannot understand why low budget clubs have not tried to emulate 80s Cardinals, and build on speed. Speed does not have peaks and valleys.

Speed and defense never take a day off. I'd build my teams around Turner's & Hamilton's. Getting a double on a ball to CF, first to home on a single, in Hamilton's case 2nd to home on a ground out like he did earlier this year.

I agree, and teams built on speed and contact enjoy overall more productive outs.

Default 66-45

Giants 0 @ Nats 1.

This was your good ole-fashioned pitchers duel. Both Tanner Roark & Madison Bumgarner were superb. Roark (12-6) pitched 7 innings allowing only 5 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts, while Bumgarner (10-7) pitched a complete game 8 innings with only 2 hits allowed, 1 run, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. After a Murphy error lead to Giant runners on the corner with 2 outs in a 0-0 tie in the 7th, Brandon Belt made a drive to center that Ben Revere made a great catch on to save the game, and than 2 pitches later Ramos parked the only run of the game, a home run off of Bumgarner, into the RF seats. Kelley (7th hold) pitched a 1-2-3 8th with a strikeout, and Melancon (31st save, first save with Washington) locked down his first save as a Nat with a 1-2-3, 2-strikeout 9th.

Nationals have Monday off and will face off against the struggling Cleveland Indians on Tuesday for a quick 2 game interleague series. Trevor Bauer (7-5, 4.08) starts for Cleveland while Max Scherzer (12-6, 2.87) takes the ball for the Nats. Game time goes at 7:05. Giants stay on the East coast and head down to Miami to take on the Marlins in the Marlins first game back at home since Ichiro got his 3,000th hit on Sunday. That 3 game series will run from Monday-Wednesday.

Indians 3 @ Nats 1.

Scherzer had a no hitter going into the 7th inning before allowing 3 hits & 2 runs, the latter 2 hits which produced the 2 runs: A Jose Ramirez double and a Lonnie Chisenhall single. Werth homered off of Andrew Miller in the 8th, before the Tribe got the run back in the 9th on a Ramirez single. Another very well pitched game from both starters: Scherzer for Washington and Trevor Bauer for the Tribe. Bauer pitched 6.1 allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Miller (18th hold) allowed 1 run on 1 hit (1 homer) with 1 strikeout in 1 inning, Bryan Shaw (18th hold) faced 3 batters replacing Miller with 1 out in the 8th and struck out 2 of the 3 batters with a base hit in between, and Cody Allen (21st save) pitched a hitless 9th with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Scherzer (12-7) allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts.

Gio Gonzalez (7-9, 4.13) starts for the Nats while Josh Tomlin (11-4, 3.81) starts for the Indians. Game time at 4:05.

Indians 4 @ Nats 7

Ramos first inning single put the Nats in front 1-0 before Abraham Almonte tied it with a double in the 2nd, and a Werth 3 run homer in the bottom half made it 4-0. Francisco Lindor 2 run homer, and a Jose Ramirez double in the 3rd tied it at 4-4, before the Nats put the game away with a 3 run 5th: Murphy RBI double and a Rendon 2 RBI double. Gonzalez (8-9) allowed 4 runs on 7 hits (1 homer) with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Belisle (3rd hold), Treinen (13th hold), and Kelley (8th hold) combined to pitch 3 scoreless innings allowing 3 hits, 0 walks with 3 strikeouts, and Melancon (2nd save [32nd overall]) pitched a 1-2-3 9th with 1 strikeout. Josh Tomlin (11-5) allowed 7 runs on 8 hits (1 home run) in 4+ innings with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

Nats finish out this homestand with a 3 game series against the Braves beginning on Friday. Mike Foltynewicz (5-5, 4.37) starts for the Braves while Stephen Strasburg (15-2, 2.80) starts for the Nats. Game time 7:05 PM. Indians head home and started a 4 game series with the Angels which began on Thursday night.

Braves 8 @ Nats 5.

Freddie Freeman double in the first and a Jace Peterson homer in the second put the Braves up 2-0. Turner single (3rd) and a Rendon 2 run homer in the 4th put the Nats in front 3-2, but that would be short lived as the Braves would take the lead for good with a Freeman 3 run home run in the 5th. Anthony Recker added a 2 run homer in the 6th, Brian Goodwin added an RBI infield single for the Nats in the 6th, Peterson sac fly in the 7th got the Braves final run, and a Werth double in the 7th got the final run of the game. Mike Foltynewicz (6-5) allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (1 homer) with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 5.2. Ina Krol (7th hold) Mauricio Cabrera (5th hold) pitched 2 combined innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout, and Jim Johnson (10th save) allowed a hit and a strikeout in a scoreless 9th for the save. Strasburg (15-3) allowed 6 runs on 7 hits (2 homers) with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in 5.1. After the game it was announced the Nats would grant Crapelbum is release and all I can see is Hallelujah! .

Game 2 goes Saturday night: Rob Whalen (1-0, 5.73) starts for the Braves while Reynaldo Lopez (0-1, 9.35) will make another spot start for the Nats. Game time slated for 7:05.

Braves 6 @ Nats 7.

Freddie Freeman first inning home run put the Bravos up 1-0, and Murphy put the Nats in front for good with a 2 run blast in the bottom half. Turner home run (he finished a double shy of the cycle) & a Murphy sac fly in the 3rd made it a 4-1 game, before a Revere triple and a Murphy RBI ground out in the 5th & an Espi single in the 6th made it a 7-1 game and looked like the Nats had the game on cruise control, but the Bravos had a run in them. They would get 1 back in the 8th on a Matt Kemp single, and would get to within 3 on Jeff Francouer & Ender Inciarte's RBI singles in the 9th. Erick Aybar 2 run double made it a 1 run game, but as the tying run with only 1 out in the 9th he got thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch that double into a triple and 2 harmless fly ball's later the game ends. Where the hell is Aybar going there?? If you're going to attempt to get 3rd there you better be damn sure......hell more than 500% sure you're going to be safe! Rob Whalen (1-1) allowed 6 runs on 6 hits (2 homers) with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings. Lopez (1-1) pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits (1 homer) with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Melancon (3rd save [33rd overall]) allowed 1 run on 2 hits in the 9th after Petit failed to retire any of the 3 batters he faced in a 7-2 game to preserve Lopez's first career victory.

The final game of the homestand and the series goes Sunday afternoon. Tanner Roark (12-6, 2.88) starts for Washington while the Bravos will hand the ball to Tyrell Jenkins (2-2, 3.92). Game time slated for 1:35 PM.
