The reason it was done this way was because the 2nd wild card was added after the season schedule was determined. There wasn't time to add in extra travel days. Next year it will be different.

hate to be a debbie downer but I think it's over...We had a great magical, dream season this year, but I think it's over. We went full speed the whole season and just ran out of gas towards the finish line and now I think there's nothing left in the tank

From April 26 to May 1st the Nats lost 5 games in a row
From May 6 to May 9th they lost 3 games in a row
From May 17 to May 19 they lost 3 in a row
From May 28 to May 30 they lost 3 in a row
From June 15 to June 19 they lost 4 in a row
From July 19 to July 21 they lost 3 in a row
From August 22 to August 28 they lost 5 in a row
From Sep 14 to Sep 16 they lost 3 in a row

Were they out of gas on those occasions as well?

It's baseball. Both teams are trying to win. One team has to lose. Sometimes it's the team you want to win. Sometimes it is the better team.

A Cardinal fan, I would not feel so gloomy if I was y'all. I gotta confess I gave up on the Cardinals a half dozen times last year. It ain't over till the last out.

Exactly, Cardinals were in a very similar situation last year. I'm in no way saying we are the Cardinals, but anything can happen, just have to show up today and execute better than they have been doing.

don't get me wrong, I'd be ecstatic if they can somehow pull it together and force a game 5, but let's face reality here, the odds are against us. We got inconsistent Ross Detwiller pitching tonight, and they got their ace Lohse. Hell, I won't be surprised if they're already selling out of NLCS tickets back in St. Louis
