Matheny might have just taken a step toward blowing game 7, too. He brings in Miller, Salas and Rzep, who only pitch when they are so far behind that the game is being conceded, to save his bullpen. But then then they got in trouble, he brings in Mujica, whom he might need tomorrow, and now will need to use him two games in a row.

Mujica only threw three pitches, so I wouldn't be too concerned about him being overused.

He had multiple times this season where he would pitch three days in a row and would do just fine. In fact the last three games of the season he pitched on three consecutive days, throwing a total of 33 pitches, and didn't allow any runs.

1. Matheny had no way of knowing he would get out of the inning on only three pitches. If he could know that, he wouldn't have started Carpenter in the first place.

2. Pitching 2 or 3 days in a row is not ideal, nor does it increase his effectiveness.

3. After using Miller, Salas and Rzep and not cutting into the deficit, what could possibly be gained by using Mujica?

Before you analyze the move based on the outcome, wait until tonight and you see the outcome.

Mujica retired 4 of 5 hitters.

I told everyone, it's not too often you see a home team lose a Game 7 in baseball, hockey, or basketball

Go Giants! 9-0 in the bottom of the 8th. I think they have it in the bag.

Yeah? Well, the way the Cards have been playing tonight, they should just call it a night.

I agree. They've done an outstanding job again this year. I was a fan since the age of eight and waited over 50 years for them to win the World Series. They did it in 2010 and I hope they'll do it again this year. They do have to finish off tonight, though.
