I can't stand the Yanks, but I think he's in. I don't have his numbers available at the moment, but the WS rings, longevity, and playing in NY will do it.
I don't think he's deserving .... very good career and a nice long term option at a difficult position ...... i just don't think longevity is the only key - i think it's hard for Cs to really stand out as it is
He's only OPSd >.900 three times in his career, has 259 career HRs playing in the era of longball
Not to knock Posada, he's a good player, but if they start letting guys in of his caliber, it will become the Hall of Mediocre. Should WS rings matter all that much? If he played in Kansas City and put up similar, or even better stats, nobody would mention his name and Cooperstown in the same sentence.
Do you think Posada gets voted into the hall? Here are some accolades:
*4x WS champion
*5x All-star
*5x Silver Slugger
* Since 2000, leads all catchers in hits, home runs, and RBI
Since when do accolades get you into the Hall of Fame?
And are you seriously suggesting that Posada should be mentioned in the same breath as catchers like Dickey or Bench?
