No. I actually don't know that.

Well, actually what we know is that you have advanced these prognostications. In that both players in question will remain under Nationals control for several more years, this means that it will be some time in the future before you are confirmed an Oracle or exposed a false prophet.

Then we will know.

Strasburg is a great pitcher, but there's no way to know if it would have made the difference. He would have been making his first-ever post-season appearance, and there's no way to know if he'd been able to withstand the pressure. As good as he has been, it's certainly reasonable to speculate about it, but if Matt Cain can throw a perfect game and be merely mediocre in the playoffs, and if Bumgarner and Carpenter both collapse in the playoffs, what does that tell you? It tells me that there are no guarantees. Playoffs are a different game entirely.

CC Sabathia was recently interviewed about his own experiences and admitted that he blew his first playoff opportunity with the Brewers. He admitted to having a case of nerves and not being effective in the postseason, and that he had to calm down and that he had gradually learned to do that with the Yankees.

It's entirely possible Stras would have made the difference, but nobody can count on it.

I bet somebody like me in Seattle said the same thing about Ichiro in 2001, now he's running around telling everybody, I told you so!
