Indians, sign Bourne for 4 years at $48 million.

Big change in approach by the Tribe this offseason, also signing Nick Swisher, Mark Reynolds and Brett Myers.

The heavy reliance on waves of minor league players wasn't working out, and fan interest had significantly declined. These signings, along with the signing of Terry Francona as manager, should add a lot of fan interest this season.

Curtis Granderson, of the Yankees, out 2 - 3 months with a broken forearm.

Expect Brett Gardner to open the season in CF and Juan Rivera, hahaha, in LF.

Rivera at one time was the # 1 rated prospect in the Yankees organization, of course that was 17 years ago.
After he posted .286/.375 for the Dodgers last season, I'm sure that you were heartbroken to see him snatched back to NY.

I was...not heartbroken...but dumbfounded when his option was picked up prior to the 2012 season.

Enjoy, Yankee fans

I meant his on base and slugging averages, and since you are aware of what those figures were, I would have thought that it would have been obvious to you.

No, I had to look up his stats because I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not. .286/.375 looks like BA and OBP, which would have been pretty good. I'm 100% positive that most people reading this thought the same.

Why don't you ask filihok if he understood? My message was directed to him.

You are behind the times with your "100% positive", it has become quite common to deliver those two stats without including batting average. OBA and SLG are more meaningful than batting average and represent a quick shorthand for conveying the quality of someone's offensive output.

Consider...

Suppose that stats were: .265/.285/.375, that conveys one picture. Suppose the stats were .235/.285/.375, that seems to convey another picture when in fact the overall productivity has not changed in any important manner, merely the building blocks of that productivity are rearranged.

Johnny Damon makes pitch to Yanks
Quote:
With Curtis Granderson out until May, ex-New York Yankee Johnny Damon has a message for his former team -- give me a call.

Speaking on ESPN New York 98.7 FM's Michael Kay Show, Damon said he is willing to play just the five or so weeks of the regular season that Granderson will miss and he even would take a league-minimum contract to return to the Bronx.
......................
In 2012, Damon hit just .222 in 64 games for the Indians. Cleveland released him in August. Still, he remains confident he could fill in for Granderson.

Damon last had a defensive WAR in the positive range in 2002. He was still a useful offensive player as late as the 2011 season when he posted a .261/.326 /.418 line in 150 games, 2.7 offensive WAR, reduced to 2.3 WAR overall due to his sub par glovework.
