Well, Ozzies out in Miami

Ozzie Guillen fired as manager of Miami Marlins - ESPN

I'm pretty sure he won't ever be a manager again. He is just too much of a looney toon. What do you guys think?

I can think of one team in The Upper Midwest that could use him.

Would you really want him? I assume you mean the Twins, and I couldn't imagine that organization bringing someone like Ozzie in

The local sports teams do tend to favor conservative "native son" types of managers and coaches. So I agree with the unlikelihood of him ever coming here; but yes, I would like to see Ozzie here. I think his exentricity is actually good for baseball; and with the lack of talent on the current Twin's roster, Ozzie's penchant for the controversial might serve to ignite the team to over-achieve--even as it would provide some rare entertainment in the local sports scene.

He had success in Chicago and is a colorful character. He might not be head skipper at a club next season but I think he'll be back.

I live in Chicago ... most of us were glad to see him go.

If you are a four-letter word type of guy, you might have thought better of him.

To me he had no class what-so-ever. He almost drove me to become a Cubs fan again!

I think that MOST people are tired of his SCHTICK.

The Marlins have always been quick on the trigger to fire managers. Tony Perez lasted what, 100 games.

I think Ozzie G is a decent manager, but he's like Bobby V -- you can't just put him on any ole team and expect the same results. The White Sox have good front office management, and Ozzie Guillen complemented that at first because he brought a lot of the attitude that the White Sox organization had when he was a player. It seemed to get to the point, however, that Guillen was starting to drag the franchise down. And as for his arrival in Miami, that was an unmitigated disaster almost from the start. What started as a publicity stunt, with perhaps a bit of favor to Ozzie's Latino background, turned into a publicity nightmare a mere five days into the season. That team never recovered psychologically, and the management had big expectations for this club. They might not have been realistic, but they were the expectations nevertheless. Guillen torched that almost from the beginning. I think the Marlins showed relative restraint in not axing him midway through the season, actually.

The short of it is, I think Ozzie has decent managerial instincts in terms of dealing with his personnel, but he may have gotten a pretty big head after his title. He needs to let gravity take over and he needs to be humbled by this experience. If he can do that and be more low-key, with still the same Lou Piniella type fire, then yeah, he could do this again. Might not be a bad idea to be a base coach or something like that again with a respected manager, though I doubt that's what he's aiming for. If nothing else, he could just sit out for a year or two and choose a team that might fit well. I think he'd be a good fit for a team that has talent but needs a bit of attitude. He could let someone good handle the pitching and hitting duties.

I think that if Ozzie wants to manage again he needs to avoid becoming an ESPN analyst. He's a good baseball man and has nothing to prove in that regard, but his eccentric vocal style would probably do himself more harm than good.
