The Angels have signed Hamilton to a 5 year deal worth in the neighborhood of 125 million.

There is a huge amount tied up between him and Pujols as far as money. I wonder how far their pockets go? As a Cardinal fan, I thought the decision to let Pujols go was smart and the Angels will see in the next 3-5 years and beyond how their pricey long term gamble with Pujols will be a bust. His best years are behind him. Now with Hamilton, they gamble 5 years on a guy who I guess they think will help them over the hump in the West. I don't see it.

We (Rangers fans) have a Steve Nash situation on our hands (we thought he was used up when he signed w/the Suns).

It's wait and see, but you can't imagine he'll play through that contract.

Could be a real conflict for the Almighty. We know He's a big Hamilton fan, but He has never cared for much for the Hollywood morals of Southern California.

The Angels seem to be concentrating on collecting the biggest stars in the game and overpaying them. That is very much in keeping with Hollywood traditions.

Pujols didn't help much, did he? It seems more like a move to keep butts in the seats than to win. Of course I can't fault them too much, being in Seattle where the biggest off-season move is the fence coming in.

The Giants tried that back in 1994 when they signed Darryl Strawberry in May after he had been released by the Dodgers. Strawberry already had several cocaine related suspensions under his belt, but this was going to be different because they also signed Strawberry's older brother Mike who was going to watch over him and make sure that he, literally, kept his nose clean. The stories in the paper were all full of optimism...."turned a corner..."...."finally gotten the help he needs.."...blah blah.

It lasted 29 games before Strawberry was caught again and re-suspended. He never returned to the team and was released after the season.
