Prickly personality, great manager, well ahead of his time in his understanding of how the game really worked.

When I think of Earl Weaver, one of his many one liners jumps out at me. "I don't think I said 10 words to Frank Robinson the whole time he was here in Baltimore."

But he had an impact on the game like Grandstander said. IIRC he was the one who popularized the "speed gun" for pitchers. He won just the one world series but had the Orioles in the playoffs many times. Heh, also IIRC he was one of the few managers (maybe the only one) in MLB history to get tossed out of a game before it even started! It actually happened twice and both times it was done by Ron Luciano!

He was cut from a similar model as Billy Martin when it came to that argumentative side. I always had a lot of respect for him.

True enough. But it'll be a good day for a game of Pepper in heaven.
