Jays 4 @ Astros 6

Aaron Loup came on in the 7th to protect a 4-2 Jays lead and promptly gave up 4 runs and didn't record an out.

Ouch.

And tonight they get to face Dallas Keuchel who is only 4-0 and sporting a 1.39 ERA.

Mebbe he's due to lose.

Default 17-20

Jays 4 @ Astros 8

Dallas Keuchel hasn't needed much run support this season but got plenty to extend his record to 5-0. Altuve, Springer and Valbuena all went deep.

R.A. Dickey (1-5) didn't have his good stuff.

I think it's time to cut the losses with R.A. and send him on his way. I know Norris & Osuna & Castro all have options remaining which makes it easier for Gibbons, AA & management to shuttle them between Buffalo & Toronto when the team needs an extra arm, but at least those 3 have potential for greater upside. R.A. is a 8 million dollar anchor weighing the team down. Even without options he's been so bad this year that he may go unclaimed on waivers anyways. I know the Jays gave up a lot to get him (d'Arnaud, Syndergaard) but it's time to see what Norris, Sanchez and other rookies can do, because it's obvious, at least to me, that Dickey isn't cutting it this year.

I'm glad I'm not Anthopolous these days. He's got a lot more to fret about than Dickey. I think RA deserves another couple of outings, at least, to see if he can work things out.

Meanwhile...the Jays drop their 4th straight and 3rd in a row to Houston. Didn't see much of it, thankfully.

They scored 3 in the first, EE hit a 2 out, 2 run homer in the 9th to at least keep them on life support for a couple extra minutes. The other 7 innings you missed nothing.

Jays 2 @ Astros 4

Despite a solid, 8-inning effort from Mark Buerhle, the misery continues as the Jays drop their 5th in a row and limp home from this road trip, 1-6.

Angels 6 @ Jays 10

Jays banged out 17 hits to end their 5-game slide. Roberto Osuna picked up the win in relief. Bautista homered and drove in three.

Josh Donaldson got into a bit of a shouting match with the Angels dugout and the TV cameras caught him "suggesting" the Angels could munch on his manhood.

Might add a little spice to the rest of the series which has three more to go.

Fine pitching duel between Aaron Sanchez and Hector Santiago. Tough loss but he grew from it.

Another well-pitched loss.

Which aren't really all that more comforting that getting thumped.

Angels 4 @ Jays 8

R. A. Dickey pitched a complete game, his best of the season, and EE hit a 3-run dinger in support as the Jays won for only the 2nd time in their last 9.

The last few games, despite the losses, have been somewhat encouraging as regards the beleaguered starting staff. They're going deeper, so the bullpen is no longer being overworked.

Devon Travis missed his 5th consecutive game. Jose Reyes began a rehab stint in Buffalo. When those two get back and Bautista is able to play the field again, this team might/should go on a run.
