Jays 2 @ Orioles 3.

Figured you were watching the Raps Trout, so I'd fill in here. Much like Wednesday when the Jays left what seemed to be a billion runners on base and lost on the passed ball, Thursday was more of the same. The Jays started off with a single & double within the first 2 batters. They had 1st and 3 with 1 out, and bases loaded with 2 outs, but could only manage 2 runs (and 1 of the 2 runs was a bases loaded walk to Smoak) as they left the bases loaded in the first and that was it for the Jays as they only managed 2 hits & 0 runs the rest of the way. Had a chance to blow it open there in the first off of Tillman, and let him off the hook. Orioles got 1 back in the first: Joey Rickard single, stolen base and a Manny Machado single made it 2-1, Orioles tied it up in the 7th on a JJ Hardy sac fly, and Rickard-Machado teamed up again to score the winning run in the 8th as Rickard started the inning with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Machado double. Both starters were long gone by the time this game was decided. Estrada pitched 5 innings gave up 6 hits, 1 run, struck out 9 and walked 4. Cecil (0-3) took the loss (and his 3rd blown save of the year ) gave up 2 hits, allowed 1 run (and 1 inherited run), 2 hits and struck out 2 in 1 2/3's innings pitched. Chris Tillman for Baltimore pitched 6 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 4 strike outs. Darren O'Day (1-0) got the win with a scoreless 8th inning pitched and didn't have a ball put in play against him, 3 strike outs and 1 walk. Zach Britton picked up his 4th save with a scoreless 9th with 1 strike out.

3 game home series with the A's (who are coming off a sweep of the Yankees in the Bronx) starts on Friday. Sonny Gray (2-1, 2.33) will take the ball for the A's, and he'll be opposed by Aaron Sanchez (1-0, 1.35) who will take the ball for the hometown 9. Game time at 7:07.

It is only the bottom of the second, but when Sonny Gray has received four or more runs in support, he is 30-2.

Default 8-10

A's 8 @ Jays 5

Sanchez got lit up and A's pitchers pitched well enough to win.

Jays were reeling from the announcement only a couple of hours before game time, that Chris Colabello was being suspended for 80 games for steroid use. Toronto played without LF Saunders and SS Tulowitzki, both nursing nagging hurts. C Russell Martin left the game in the 6th with neck tightness. Jays called LHP Chad Girodo from Buffalo to take Colabello's spot on the roster.

Default 9-10

A's 3 @ Jays 9

It took until the 19th game of the 2016 season but we finally saw a 2015-like Blue Jays game. They banged out 13 hits, including 3 home runs in support of J. A. Happ's (3-0) solid outing. Tulowitzki hit a couple and Donaldson clobbered his 9th.

Ezequiel Carrera, starting in LF for Michael Saunders (thigh) had his first-ever 4-hit game and made a couple of nice catches.

Mark Canha homered for the A's who saw their 7-game road winning streak end. Chris Bassitt (0-1) took the loss.

Drew Hutchison, called up from the Buffalo Bisons, will start for Toronto in the rubber game this afternoon against the A's Eric Surkamp.

A's 3 @ Jays 6

Oakland out-homered Toronto 3-2 but lost on the scoreboard as Drew Hutchison (1-0) bested Eric Surkamp (0-2).

There's encouraging signs that the Jays are close to going on a bit of a tear. The pitching and defense has been solid and now the bats are coming around.

White Sox are in town for 3 starting tonight when Marcus Stroman (3-0) takes the hill against Miguel Gonzalez.

W. Sox 4 @ Jays 0

Yuck. Jays get swept at home for the first time in two years. Jose Quintana and Marco Estrada were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel until the 7th when Estrada cracked and allowed 3 runs.

This White Sox team isn't doing it with mirrors. They have great pitching throughout, play good D and are getting timely hits.

Jays just can't seem to click on all cylinders. Right now, it's the bullpen that's sprung leaks and the bats have been erratic.

A day off today sure can't hurt. Next up: Visiting Tampa on Friday.
