I wish Vin would have finished off the decade, I'll definitely miss his voice.

Go Dodgers!

Represents a step back from last season when they beat the Padres 15 - 0 on opening day

It was progress for San Diego. They lost by 15 runs in 2016, but only by 11 runs this year. If the pattern holds they will lose by 7 runs next season, by 3 runs in 2019, and would be poised to win by one run in 2020.

Rich hill made one start before his blister sent him to the DL.

Dodgers recall right-handed relief pitcher Josh Fields to take his place for now.

They will, most likely, move either Ross Stripling or Alex Wood to the rotation.

Hill is next scheduled to pitch on April 10th.
That's also Julio Urias' scheduled day. He'll almost certainly start in Oklahoma not in Chicago

It's pretty clear that the Dodgers are taking advantage of the new 10-Day DL

They've already sent 18 players to the DL. Some, certainly, have had serious injuries. Such as Andrew Toles' ACL tear. But some of their DL moves have been less obvious.

For example, Kenta Maeda struggled through his first 4 starts this season - 8.05 ERA, 4.53 xFIP
But he'd turned it around in his last 3 - 2.21 ERA, 2.86 xFIP
And was coming what many people (but not me) called his best career start - 8.3 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits, 0 walks, 5 strike outs.

Incidentally, Maeda went on the DL the exact day that Hyun-Jin Ryu was eligible to be taken off the DL after he'd "hurt" his hamstring in his last start.

I don't mind this "gaming" of the system - especially for pitchers. With the 10-day DL, starting pitcher can essentially miss one start in the rotation and get extra rest a couple of times during the course of the season. Starting pitchers have about a 40% chance of ending up on the DL anyway, so better to do it when the team is prepared and possibly prevent an actual injury.

The Dodgers are, apparently, thinking of using OFer Brett Eibner as a relief pitcher.

Quote:
This isn’t just about a position player saving the bullpen in a blowout. Eibner has thrown several bullpen sessions at Dodger Stadium and at Oklahoma City, working on building arm strength and developing secondary pitches to accompany a fastball he said hit 95 mph in college.
Dodgers' newest pitcher could be outfielder Brett Eibner - LA Times

Dodgers just placed Alex Wood on 10 day DL. Is he really hurt?? I don't think so.

They placed Kenta Maeda on the DL the day after he got a win too. The Dodgers are circumventing the rules by placing pitchers who just pitched on the DL so they may miss a start, but it keeps them with a full roster and rested pitchers.

I am thinking most of their pitchers with the exception of Kershaw are getting long rest between starts by rotating them on the 10 day DL.

I just read this post after I wrote mine, I am glad I am not the only one who sees it. I don't care as long as we win!!
