2 main reasons- while B Cox was considered a great manger- his decisions in the postseason often made no sense. The other- we didn't hit in the playoffs. All the guys who put up great numbers in the regular season did little or nothing in the playoffs. Maddox was an ordinary pitcher in the playoffs. Smoltz was terrific, Glavine a mixed bag.

It sure didn't feel "irrelevant" while watching them choke every year in the playoffs!!

Consider: A .617 team (100-62) would in theory win 4.3 games in a seven game series. A .555 team (90-72) would in theory win 3.8. Less than a full game difference. So suppose we continue the series and make it best five out of nine? The .617 team wins 5.5 games, the .555 wins 4.9. Still less than a full game. How about 15 games? The .617 wins 9.2, the .555 team 8.3. Almost there.

A 17 games series at last produces a full one game advantage for the .617 team, 10.4 to 9.4. Until these teams played 17 games, the .617 team could not have been considered the favorite. And at 17 games, it is just a one game favorite, as in prevailing 9 games to 8.

That is how small the difference between the two teams actually is.

Ah, the price of success. As I anticipated, winning has shattered the long sustained lovable losers image of the Cubs. They are no longer losers, but they also seem to have become less lovable.
Good point, and the Braves were unlucky at times. They did play "uptight" in the postseason, however. That was obvious when watching them hit in key situations. That, and Cox over managing cost them severely in the post season.

So what do you want for the rest of the year?

LAD continuing this torrid pace with the hope they can sustain it through the playoffs?

-or-

LAD hitting a slump at the end of August and hope they can pull it back together again before the playoffs begin?

The team to play to the best of their abilities throughout the end of the season

If they do so, I think they've got the best chance of any team to win the World Series.

But, they're still more likely to lose than win.

Will see Dodgers play tonight here in AZ.

Two good pitchers scheduled,
- Alex Woods for L.A. who's 13-1 with a 2.33 ERA, 112-Ks and 29-BBs.
- Zack Greinke for AZ who's 13-4 with a 3.10 ERA, 157-Ks and 27-BBs.

Good pitching kept the game close as Bellinger goes yard and closes in on Piazza.

It was an excellent game.

My first time at Chase Field, very nice ballpark, lots of concessions but wow are they pricey as in $13.50 for a 24-ounce can of beer.

Can someone tell me why the AZ fans boo the daylights out of Yasiel Puig?

I think we all want them to continue. Maybe not at the same pace, that would almost be impossible but to continue without a losing streak is the way to go. Oh I know, some may think if they continue they could hit the skids in the playoffs. That is always a possibility but this year it is unlikely.
