Looks like there might be some negotiations involved with Kershaw and his opting out. The Dodgers and Kershaw agreed to an extension on his decision to opt out. That tells me that they are negotiating or why would the Dodgers agree on the extension??

Machado is out!

I could see Kershaw getting a 4 year deal & possibly a vesting option for a 5 year if he reaches certain milestones. Sometimes contracts say that the vesting option comes into play if the pitcher reaches an average of 200 innigns the last 2 years or something like that.

In Kershaws case I think that might work. If he gets hurt you won't have to worry about it.

Kershaw is still a great pitcher for a 162 game season. I just have lost a lot of faith in him come playoffs. But with Buehler doing what he's doing maybe Kershaw can be more like a #3 in the playoffs.

I just read Kershaw and the Dodgers reached an agreement to keep him until 2021 for $93 million. That's good.

I hope so because he's coming to Milwaukee. I didn't watch many Dodgers games, but I remember him making a lot of errors versus the Brewers in the playoffs. Hopefully he leaves those behind.

I was aware of his defensive ranking when I was watching him having a bad time defensively in the playoffs. I think we can write that off as a fluke, no different than a great hitter having a bad post season at the plate. The proper evaluation should be based on the regular season, not the tiny database the post season generates.

Rumor is that the Dodgers are considering signing A.J. Pollock. I would much rather they sign him than Harper. He's right-handed, hits a moderate number of home runs and steals a moderate number of bases, has a decent batting average (a little higher than Harper). His contributions are summed up with WAR of 3.0 and 2.5 in the past two seasons.

Plus, he's actually a good center fielder.

For LA, Pollock would fit well.

Then again, I view LAD as 2019 Division champs already, as the NL West is hardly strong.

Dodgers winning the NL West should be the easiest lock in baseball this year.

In every other division, you could make a legitimate case for at least 2 teams winning the division, in the NL West I can't make an argument for the other 4 teams. With that said however....I don't think the Dodgers will wind up with the largest lead at seasons end....largely because they'll have the division won by the end of April, so they'll put it on cruise control.
