Of the 15 teams in the National League, as of this morning nine of them are below .500...and that is even with the Astros having shifted to the AL.

Milwaukee Brewers to distribute $10 vouchers for August games - ESPN

Quote:
Challenged by the news of Ryan Braun's suspension and a disappointing season, Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio is reaching into his wallet.

The team announced Monday that each fan that shows up with a ticket to any of the team's 12 home games in August will receive a $10 voucher that will be good for food, beverages, tickets or merchandise.

"We were finalizing something like this to give back to our loyal fans just as news of Ryan's suspension hit," said the team's chief operating officer, Rick Schlesinger. "Mark decided he wanted to make a dramatic impact that would cost more money."

Based on those calculations, the vouchers will cost the team more than $3.6 million if they are all used.

Although it is close to the roughly $3 million the team won't have to pay Braun, Schlesinger said that wasn't the intention.

Nine games scheduled today -- four of them won in walk-offs. REd Sox could have made it five with a hit, with tying and wining runs in scoring position in the ninth.

In the ten games since the All Star break, the Orioles' Chris Davis has been held homerless, the longest stretch like this for him this season. (Previous longest was six games.)

Before the All Star break Davis hit .315/.392/.717.
Since then it has been .205/.256/.282 in 42 plate appearances.

Buster Posey should have been a Colorado Rocky. Last season at Coors Fields he hit .485/.541/.818.
This season at Coors he has hit .455/.500/.955

So, is it too much to ask of the Pirates to win at least 18 of their last 56 games?

It's a pretty bad market when Jake Peavy is the head of the trade deadline class. Only a team with a payroll like Boston's could absorb the blow if he gets injured again next year.

Can anybody find anything in the records about the last time there was a five-game series sweep in the Major Leagues? How about the last time a team in first place in their division was swept in a 5-game series? Can we count this one as a foregone conclusion, or do we have to wait until the fifth game is actually played out?
