Rox won again today, that's 2 wins in a row. Final was 7-6 and are now 39-38 at .506

De La Rosa pitched six good innings, got the win and is now 8-4 with a 3.19 ERA.

Scahill came in to pitch the 7th, giving up two hits and walk but managing to get out of the innings without any runs scoring.

Belisle came in to pitch the 8th and promptly gave up 4 hits and 4 runs and had to be yanked before he blew the lead and lost us the game.

Rex Brothers managed to finish up the 8th and close them out in the 9th to preserve the win. His ERA is an awesome 0.28 with 3 Saves, and in 32.1 innings has 32 Ks.

Cuddyer's hitting streak is now at 21 games.

Some stuff here to smile about as the Rockies have a day off on Monday and then head up to Boston for two with the Red Sox.

EDIT: Coupled with losses today by SF, AZ and SD, the Rox are tied with SF for second/third, both 3.0 games behind AZ.

Despite the slump and the injury to Tulo, the Rox are still over .500. They always seem to hold their own against the Red Sox (post season excepted) so it'll be interesting to see if they have rebounded from the slump or not. This is a 9 game road trip and the Rox are 2-2 on it. Good start. I'd like to see them finish at 5-4 or better.

IIRC, they are 2-5 so far on this road trip, counting the three games in Toronto....

That's right. Thanks, I have been trying to block that series from memory and it worked. Now I'm depressed again.

I can't help but feel this day off is going to be good for the team. I can't say why, and I could be wrong. I just think they were due for a day off.

2-8 in their last 10 games. Wow. I knew they would miss Troy, but I didn't know it would be this bad. Maybe it turns out the Rockies are who we thought they were.

One bright spot for the Rocks, and congratulations, to Cuddyer for breaking Donte Bichette's consecutive hit streak.

The Rox are still in a bit of a slump, and at 40-41 are exactly 1/2 through their schedule. After a strong start, 40-41 is a bit of a bummer, but if you would have asked me in early April, I would have taken it in a heartbeat! Cuddyer's hitting streak extends to 25 games, and is beginning to draw attention. I hope he can keep it up and stay focussed. It sort of gives you an appreciation for what DiMaggio did back in 1941 when he set the record at 56. Cuddyer is less than halfway there.

Today was a good day for the Rockies. They won 2-1 over the Giants, so this brings them to 41-41 on the season. They are 6-6 against the Giants now, a season series they began at 0-4. Cuddyer also brings his hitting streak to 26, so that's impressive.

Go Rockies!

Go Rockies!
I just checked the standing on Yahoo's MLB page and it shows the Rockies at 41-42.

Season is half over. Tulo is out a while longer. Pitching is not improving much. Team is 6 games behind in the wild card chase.

Still, the Rockies can have a shot at either the Division crown or the wild card slot. To climb two games to take the NL West Division crown seems easier than climbing six games to overtake the likes of Cincy, St Louis and the Nats.

Pitching seems key to this year's success or lack thereof. Rockies ERA is 19th out of 30 teams for pitching. The top ERA pitching teams are Pittsburgh, Atlanta, St Louis, Cincinnati and the Nats, i.e., all of the teams we have to beat to get to the wild card. Meanwhile, AZ, SF and L.A. are above us in the ERA and we are ahead of San Diego but only because the Rox ERA is 4.10 to San Diego's 4.11 which is a meaningless 1/100th of a point.

Hitting by the Rockies couldn't be much better, we are 2nd best in the NL with an AVG of .271 and 5th best in MLB. Only St Louis has a better batting average (.274) than we do in the NL. Rockies are 2nd in NL and 6th in MLB for RBIs.

Season is half over for MLB; how time flies. If the Rockies can keep hitting while the pitching improves this can be a very good season. Pitching will have to improve a lot to have a chance in the post-season.

Rockies get the win today but not before dropping 2 to the hated Dodgers. They stand at 42-44 right now, just 2.5 behind the D-Backs. The Rox travel to Arizona next, so this is a chance to get back on top of things. Meanwhile Tulo took batting practice today, which is a positive sign. The NL West is hotly contended, but I am beginning to think first team to 83 or 84 wins takes it.
