Over the years, I have had many acquaintances who have been drafted in a number of drafts. Two of the guys I attended school with many years ago were drafted in the 1st round.
I guess that the most interesting draftee was a guy who was drafted in the 32nd round but chose to pursue his dream of attending law school. I asked him why he did not even spend a year or two in the minor leagues to see if he could make it to MLB. He told me that we was a very good high school second baseman but he lacked the range that would be needed to play infield in the majors. He had doubts that he could hit .280 in the minors. I really respected the guy for his honesty.
Chase Lambin reminds me of a number of long time minor leaguers - Brad Komminsk, Tom Shopay and the like who just could not admit that he just lacked the talent to play MLB. Maybe it is time for him to find a coaching job. It will pay more than he is currently making.
