OK.
Could not believe that error by Simmons, but it's baseball; stuff happens.

Nats & Braves match up is history. Looks like Alex Wood, the Braves pitcher, was the catalyst and he got the Braves to wake up (they looked......bored) and play ball.

CB Bucknor is sometimes widely regarded as one of the worst umpires in MLB. He once called a batter out after 2 strikes. OK. So we all make mistakes. The guy is disliked and now Alex Wood knows why.

Today, Friday, the Braves played ball. Beat up on the Cubs, which by itself is no great feat, but as we all know, every team has great players. The Cubs tried, almost succeeded, but the Braves put them away at the top of the ninth.

For the past week or two the Braves have not looked like a World Series winner. Dunno how important that is for now, but come October they will face some very fired up Dodgers, or Pirates, or maybe someone else. And Dodgers and Pirates are very fired up!

Uggla continues to be marginal for a Major League hitter; I feel bad for BJ Upton (just can't get a hit). Freddie looked better today; Gaddis slapped himself on top of the helmet the way he does when he's on, so I think he's good.

Maybe the Nats will lose tonight. They did put up one heckuvafight!

The Central is all kinds of interesting right now. The Reds and Pirates series is really huge because it's more than likely going to decide the wildcard positions. The things is though if one team ends up dominating, it's going to give the Nats a slight chance of moving up. Right now after the Reds comeback win, they are tied. Just a crazy last week of baseball we have to look forward to.

it is exciting: I am so torn, we are Cards fans, that is fine, but also Pirates. I am crossing my fingers they end any hope the Reds have of making the playoffs. Then, if it gets down to the Cards and Pirates, I am going to be routing for both: how will that work? I don't think it will.

So the Nats go 1-1 in their double header Sunday to fall to 5 back of the Reds with 6 games to play, not a good spot to be in. Reds & Pirates both have a magic number of 2 I believe. Nats face Adam Wainwright in St. Louis Monday night, while the Pirates go to Wrigley Field to face the Cubs, and the Reds face the Mets at home. The Wildcard race could be over in less than 22 hours.

It's true. They are just about done.

It's sad because I was hoping they make it and then have a pool party like the Dodgers
since their last series is in Arizona.

The Nats need to hang in there just long enough to knock off the Cards a couple of times this week...

Reds win, Pirates win, Nationals lose.

That means the Nats are out. So now we know who's going to the playoffs, but we don't know what order they are going in.

Dear Nats:

Please be advised that being out of the race does not absolve you of your moral obligation to whomp on the Cardinals.

Dear Cubs:

Playing "spoiler" can be fun. But not right now.
