Cano is not worth that kind of money, especially at his age. Now if it were Mike Trout, perhaps, even then I am not 100% sure.

Barry Zito - 7 years 126 million
Mark Texiera 8 years 180 million
Alex Rodriguez - 10 years 275 million
Josh Hamilton - 5 years 125 million
Albert Pujols - 10 years 250 million
Joey Votto - 10 years 225 million

And now Robinson Cano wants 305 million. It's just ridiculous. I don't really have any other thoughts on this, just wanted to tell someone how I feel.
How about
Arod(10 years-250, was great for all of it)
Miguel Cabrera(8 years 152, still a dominant player
Manny(8 years 160) was great for all of it except the last year and he was still decent.

Baseball players make this much money because they generate that much revenue for their team. Don't have any problem with it.
As for cano he's not worth that much and he won't get that much.

I think the owners are shying away from long term big dollar deals......too many get burned by overpaid/underperforming athletes.

Cano might get a Pedroia sized deal unless the Yankees simply want to overpay.

Maybe players' salaries should be announced in terms of "teachers" rather than dollars. Instead of saying Player X will be paid sixteen million dollars, say he will be paid as much as 400 teachers. Is Player X worth 400 teachers?

Average teacher salary is 35000 thousand dollars. A-Rod's contract is worth 857.14 teachers per year. I think 857.14 teachers would be more valuable

Society does not behave like it agrees. If I could get paying folks to fill up a stadium to watch me teach, I might be making Arod money.

They aren't announced in those terms because it is an irrelevant comparison and no one cares about how much more they make then teachers.

You mean you don't care. Of course not everyone cares, but some do. I chose teachers because that is one profession that most people have experience with. Everyone knows a teacher.

I think some of them would be pretty embarrassed by their salaries if they were announced that way. Maybe Scott Boras would be out of a job.

Maybe somebody would be embarrassed but they wouldn't have any reason to be. As to the bolded that wouldn't happen.
