Marlon Byrd. Two years/$16 million to Phillies, the LTCF of the NL.

Too much? Will the Phillies even be competitive in 2014?

If he becomes a star he is certain to wind up endorsing Die Hard batteries.

So far, I'd say no - and I'm a Phillies fan.

Well, now you've got Carlos Ruiz signed through his age 38 season. So that's got to have you doing backflips of joy, eh?

I'm feeling confident RAJ will pay more per win than any other MLB club in 2014.

Bobby Tanzilo's Blogs: Beat writers speculate on Braun to the Mets

It's no secret that the Mets have chatted about Corey Hart and that the Brewers are interested in Ike Davis. Nor is it a secret that the Mets might be interested in dealing, too, and are eying Norichika Aoki.

Rangers To Acquire Prince Fielder For Ian Kinsler: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

Tigers are swapping Prince Fielder to Texas for Ian Kinsler. Like this trade, allows Miggy to go back to first base.

Rangers finally cleared that log jam in the middle infield, and Fielder's numbers should be 15-20% better in that ballpark.

Bad trade for the Rangers. Since 2007 Kinsler has produced 32.1 WAR to Fielder's 22.5. In 2013 Kinsler had a 5.0 WAR while Fielder posted 1.7. That is an immense difference in value. Further, Fielder's compensation is 23 million a year while Kinsler commands just 13 million.

Fielder is still a fairly young player, but one with old player skill sets...slugs, gets on base, makes pretty much no contribution outside of those two areas and his skills in those two areas have been declining steadily. Fielder is a fat player and with a few exceptions, fat players do not age well.

Fielder's scoreboard numbers will probably improve as a consequence of changing home stadiums, but that will not increase his value, just the illusion of value.

...pull the trigger. Add to that Detroit's help in paying his salary in last five years of the contract. If Davies is fine with the trade and it opens the door for more action in the winter meetings, the fans should be excited compared to last year.
