Being a Tampa Bay Rays fan makes it tough to rant on Jonny Gomes ,but if one does the math he will home run walk off at least once in the month and win four games via power. He is a remarkable outfielder with a killer arm at least to cut off. The Royals are extremely talented and the added plus with Gmes is he is a mimic of Pete Rose . He will slid on his face if necessary to get to first. Watch him he is MY Mr. baseball!!! God Bless Kasas CIty! He should always pinch hit when in the 7th yourdownby 2 or he is a fair desginated hitter but until he plays more his RBIs are not as dependable. He is the kind of guy that if he breaks out and begins hitting singles and doubles he will be a force to contend with. Pitchers beware he will drill you into la la land.

Kansas City didn't really need much help. Outside of Toronto, KC, Houston & Yankees it's an incredibly mediocre bunch of teams.

The Royals receive help for postseason play by acquiring Gomes. The acquisition does not guarantee them a World Series championship. The Royals need to earn their way.

Now, they've been tough all year. Gomes definitely helps the starting pitching in a big way. They'll certainly finish with the AL's best record and the best chance of getting through the playoffs. In a matter of days, they'll have their division locked up.

Are you kidding? Gomes? He has never been a good player and he is especially bad now. In his 13 big league seasons he has posted a negative WAR in 11 of them. This season with Atlanta he batted .221/ .325 /.364 and has compiled - 0.4 WAR. He hasn't had a positive WAR since his 2012 season with Oakland. He is a horrible defensive liability and should never be allowed on the field with a glove.

Gomes is more likley to cost Kansas City some runs than guarantee any WS victory.

He is one of the worst players in baseball. No matter what they are paying him it is too much.

Yeah, he's not exactly the second coming of Hal McRae.

Here I thought they picked him up for veteran bench depth, and not to be the linchpin of a World Series title. He is just a replacement level player after all.

Actually he is a sub replacement level player. In theory the Royals could reach down to their Triple A team and find several players who could perform better or at least as well as Gomes, and do it for the ML minimum salary rather than the 3 million which Gomes gets paid.

Really? As soon as the Royals acquired Gomes I thought that Rob Manfred would end the season early and hand the World Series to the Royals. I never realized that the Royals would have to earn it until you pointed this out.

Except he hits very well against left handed pitching...a huge weakness of the Royals. A platoon against lefties is great with Rios playing like dog crap all year.

Dyson/Gomes platoon with Cain in CF and Gordon in LF. Another great acquisition by Dayton Moore.

You don't trust a minor league callup for big post season at bats or pinch hitting. A veteran bat off the bench can always be used. Who cares about a few million dollars for improved depth and a playoff run?
